My daughter...

Costa Rica doesn't worry me. Panama is another story.

Why am I thinking mosquitoes, Malaria?

My daughter refuses to take the shots that are recc'd!

She needs to take the meds. Getting sick in rural Central America is about as ill-advised as having unprotected sex in sub-Saharan Africa. The Mrs. caught typhoid in rural Mexico several years back. It was ugly. Make her follow the CDC's precautions.

Thanks for the link Yo! :D

I will pass it along.

I can only suggest things to her. She is not a "dumbass'!

But she is an intelligent women who's life I have no control over anymore.

And maybe I'm trying to alert those of you who will be in a similar situation in the years to come.

I bless her on her decisions. It's her life, and I have to live w/ that.

Just want my baby to be safe. Name calling will not make it better.

Thank you for your passive comment. Dumbass??? No comment.

Fact is many of the preventatives have worse symptoms than the assumed disease.

I expected more from you. I am disappointed.

wait a minute, here. One post ago you (at least seemed) to be annoyed that your daughter isn't going to get the recommended shots. But now that I said she was a dumbass if she didn't get the shots, you come here to tell me that the preventive medicine could be worse than the disease itself. So then why the hell were you complaining about her not getting the shots in the first place.

A very good friend of mine is currently living in Nigeria and he caught malaria last year and it messed him up badly for well more than a month.

Don't get pissed at me for bluntly saying that your daughter should take the preventative medicine--I used the word "dumbass" specifically so that you could use it as ammunition against her when she tries to explain why she doesn't want to take the preventative medicine.

So name calling is OK if it is justified by intent? I don't think so. Especially when that person can't defend herself. When was the last time you called someone a name and you got a positive response?

Complaining...no. Concerned...yes. Sorry for not making that clearer. The whole intent of the post is about my wife and I being concerned and that "controlling" her is impossible, but convincing her w/ the comments here is the correct tactic.

I didn't say that she was a dumbass, I said that she would be a dumbass if she didn't take the medicine. If you choose to interpret that as me insulting your daughter, that is your perogative, but is not how I meant it.

Funny how I missed the word "would" in the original quote. I guess I need a new pair of glasses.

Enough already, you made an absolutely personal affront to the man's daughter. In person he probably would have hit you. Just apologize for getting carried away and move on.

I believe the "would" is implied by the "if" portion of the statement. It's not like he said "Your daughter is a dumbass. End comment."

He was using the word dumbass for demonstrative effect about the importance of prevention. You know, an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure.

(Making assumptions here, but knowing these guys for a while, I'm guessing, especially based on the posts in this thread, rockn is a bit on edge about this and really read way too much into wiegie's comments. I know wiegie would never purposefully insult someone's daughter)

So, kiss and make up fellas.

Disagree, I think this new wiegie with extra douchyness is clearly causing the problem. Dude's been completely wild and uncontrollable as of late. I think a little timeout is in order.

Hi RR.. I'm not trying to get in the middle of anything else around here. My own opinion is that your daughter is 30+ years old. She has done this type of thing before. You are over reacting. I understand it is natural to worry no matter the age of your kids but she is quite old enough to make her own decisions in life. Especially if she has excelled in any endeavor she has taken on as you say.

I have never traveled the world myself so I could not advise on anything regarding this specific topic. But I do know that I had to tell my over-bearing parents to get a grip when I was at an age that was much younger than your daughter. Let her live her life and guide her when she asks for you help.

(with the exception of the kissing part), that is exactly what I meant. Here is my original comment again:

Your daughter is a dumbass if she doesn't take the shots.

Extra-Megan Foxy or not, I am actually literally shocked that RR would think that I just up and called his daughter a dumbass.

[stirsthepot]But since RR had already said his daughter is not taking the shots, you are technically calling his daughter a dumbass since the facts were already at hand.[/stirsthepot]

I don't see any real malice here, rubbing someone the wrong way, yes...it happens to me too, sometimes things just touch a nerve
