bushwacked
So, I guess on the surface, I admire his willingness to try something new. Unlike, say Mark Lanegan, he has really struggled to make quality music since the grunge era. The single I've heard isn't horrible, but it's hardly great poppy hip-hop/R&B. billay
Didn't he write or produce David Cook's new album?
bushwacked
Didn't he write or produce David Cook's new album? I hope not. I do know that CC did a kind of head scratching version of Michael Jackson's Billy Jean. And then David Cook covered his cover.
detlef
I do think his bond single was pretty cool. I liked it better than the Jack White Alicia Keys one for QoS

I too liked the Bond theme he did. He has a solid rock voice, but without Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron, he's just fancy hair and a warble. CaP'N GRuNGe
I didn't really think the Bond song was that good. OK, but nothing great.

bushwacked
I remember the first time I heard that,, on Headbangers Ball. In 1989ish.....it had a big impact on what happened with me for the next few years.
bushwacked
So, what sounds better ..Chris Cornell's hip hop attempt and his ill fated Rage against the machine....... Or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xMvw9lCOBw Not to mention, Screaming Trees is the one grunge band that still sounds fresh when you listen to them today. CaP'N GRuNGe
I never really listened to screaming trees. I mean there was the one song from the Singles soundtrack. But that's about it.

Get a Screaming Trees type Greatest Hits type album...based on what I know about you; I almost] guarantee you will love it. Mark Lanegan is frustrating because he will spend 5 months with an awesome band; then quit and spend 10 months and sing and write with a mediocre band. That's his story, but he has a lot more to offer than Chris Cornell or almost any other grunge band guy IMO.

bushwacked
Dave Grohl has fared OK. Oh yea....but he is an awesome drummer, let alone a good songwriter.....let alone being able to get King Diamond to sing on a song you've wrote. CaP'N GRuNGe
You can't go wrong with Mark Arm. Back in the early 90s i gave mudhoney a little listen and didn't really like Arm's voice. Then I went back to it a few years later and it grew on me. I only have their double disc greatest hits thing, but I like alot of it. TimC
Layne Staley (of Alice in Chains) died 7 years ago yesterday (although they didn't find the body for 2 weeks so that is an estimate). Greatest band of that era IMO. Same day Kurt Cobain died in 1994. Edited April 6, 2009 by TimC
