Pope Flick
Actually it was the Dems who started locking people up in the interest of national security. (See WW II treatment of Japanese/Americans) and as far as waterboarding someone else 183 times its not like he had a lot to do during his time as a prisoner. Overall if it gives you all a warm fuzzy to release all the memos and information go for it. But if (I sure hope it doesnt happen) we get hit by another 9-11 I would expect you all to be here defending your position. An ounce of prevention is more effective than a pound of cure. Defend it from what? Your future assertion that every possible attack could have been prevented through the use of torture?
Perchoutofwater
This is one big diversion.
bpwallace49
IMO, it is not as much of an issue that waterboarding was done, it is the fact that the rest of the world KNOWS we were doing it and we lose our "moral high ground" when defending our actions for acting in our own best interests. If the US wants to play the part of the morallly defensible superpower, then we need to make sure we DONT do things like waterboarding or at LEAST try to keep it secret so we dont look like hypocrites to the rest of the world. We have already been involved in enough morally questionable actions in other countries in the last 40+ years. Why give our detractors more ammo to attack our positions? Example= We had the support and goodwill of much of the international community after 9-11 when we invaded Afghanistan, and then squandered that support and goodwill when we invaded Iraq. bpwallace49
http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/...pisodeId=224255 Very interesting interview with Elizabeth Warren about the "transparancy" of the original bailout. To summarize . . . the majority of people in governmnet are self serving jackasses that have no idea what they are doing . . . . BOTH sides of the aisle. Ursa Majoris
It seems like we are playing by rules that the enemy certainly would care less about following and that is true. It is also what gives us the moral high ground in a conflict such as this. In essence, it makes us the "good guys". We fight to defend nobility and ethics, the right of women to be free from the shackles of oppression and for the freedom of speach and thought against the tyranny of religious conformity. Tolkein himself couldn't have more clearly delineated the boundaries of this conflict. As soon as we cast aside our virtues in the name of expediency, we become no more than they are; chaotic, murderous, caricatures of men who are engaged in conflict for the sake of the fight or to eradicate the other in some heinous sacrifice to a mythical god. TimC
Gotcha. Next time, our military should just pop a cap in these people's ass instead of capturing them to try to find out more. You guys don't have a problem with killing the terrorists now...do ya?

Ask any Marine who fought at Tarawa or Iwo Jima or any other damn place in the Pacific how far playing by the rules got them. Hell, ask any kid coming back from Iraq or Afghanistan the same thing now! Rules? Rules is for football not survival.
AtomicCEO
CIA confirms waterboarding prevented a 9/11 style attack on LA. "The Central Intelligence Agency told CNSNews.com today..." Seriously? The CIA bypassed all the normal news outlets and took an exclusive to the mighty CSNews.com? This is a reliable story, Perch. Certainly not a piece of fiction from some unknown website looking for page views from right-wing idiots. Do you actually believe this? Do you? Do you fall down a lot?
