  1. 1. Mark Sanchez - overall outlook

    • Should develop into one of the best QBs in the league
      5
    • Second to Matt Stafford, still a good QB
      11
    • Will never be more than an average QB
      8
    • Other (explain)
      4
  2. 2. Thomas Jones - 2009 means what?

    • Still same stud that had 1519 yards and 15 TDs last year
      1
    • Turns 31 years old - will share carries and be a marginal fantasy back
      24
    • I wouldn't touch him in a fantasy draft
      3
  3. 3. Shonn Greene - 2009 means what?

    • Could lead Jets in rushing - very nice to own on your team
      2
    • Will share carries with Jones, marginal fantasy value
      17
    • Won't have much if any fantasy value this year
      9

The State of the Jets

Jets in a transition with Mark Sanchez a near lock to start in week one. How good is he? Good enough to defeat bad weather late in the year? Manning seems to be vexed by it.

Thomas Jones - career year in 2008 but turns 31 and wants more money. Jets not going to give that to a 31 year old back with "it's nearly over" written all over him. Will you gamble on Jones since he'll come cheaply?

Shonn Greene - sleeper?

The jury is - obviously - out on Mark Sanchez. I am not expecting much of him as rookie QB's have a long learning curve. Especially ones with no true go-to WR to throw to.

That said, my sleeper for this team is Dustin Keller. He sparkled early on with our last QB (sorry fellas, cannot bring myself to say his name one more time...!) until he dropped a big pass. Then he was ignored. Sanchez will not do that, making Keller a 75 - 80 catch guy this year.

Also...I think Thomas Jones has a little left in the tank. Regardless of his age in terms of years, his football age has to be a year or two lower, given the time he missed with injuries early on in his career. The line is still solid and he will not shoulder the workload he did last year with Washington getting more touches and Greene taking a few carries a game also.

The key for Jones is the QB spot...if Sanchez / Clemens can keep the D off the line, Jones will find room to run.

I agree. I don't believe that he has the mileage other 30 year old RB's have. Injuries and changing to numerous teams while not getting a chance leave him with a few more years left to be productive.

Sanchez should, could eventually become one of the top 10 QB's in the NFL, but it's no lock. I believe Clemens has a shot at strating this year, I don't see Sanchez being handed the job, he'll have to earn it on the field. Having said that, he will start at some point, but will it be this year? I'd say 50-50. I would not be surprised to see Clemens start game 1, and if the Jets start to win, Sanchez may have to wait till next year.

The Jets will likely be a run first, run second team. I think Jones gets fewer carries, Leon more than last year and SG getting as many as 100 touches this year. None of them will be a #1 RB, Jones might be a #2. His holdout isn't going to help his case any.

Cotchery, Clowney and Stuckey actually might work out pretty well for the Jets from a team standpoint, but only Cotchery might put up numbers good enough to be a #3 WR. Keller is really the only real #1 FF starter on the roster, and at that, a low second teir FF starter.

couple of days old...but it still makes me "lol"

The New York Jets: Where Amateur Hour never ends. Honestly, with the exception of the Bill Parcells era, has there ever been a time since Super Bowl III when the Jets team was being run by adults? Rex Ryan is just another in a seemingly endless line of in-over-their-heads buffoons that stretches back through Mangini to Herm Edwards to Rich Kottite and beyond. Ryan is so caught up in trying to fill the role of Bombastic Quote Machine Who Loves Tough Football and Isn’t Intimidated By the Job that his Training Camp is turning into an embarrassing, chaotic dog & pony show of energy-wasting fights. At the exact moment the Jets practice was degenerating into Bad Newz Kennels, a few hundred miles to the East, the Patriots were working on Red Zone runs, fine-tuning their 2-minute offense and celebrating their quarterback’s birthday. And to show how they build team unity in Foxboro, the most celebrated football player of our times got the cake smashed in his face. Then he ran a lap for making a mistake and stayed after practice to work on throws with his new TE Chris Baker. Now that I think of it, Baker spent the first 7 years of his career with the Jets. I wonder which team he thinks has a better way of getting ready for the season?

The Jets have not played a down yet, and the coach is a buffoon. Not sure if the above is from a legit media person or a blogger, but that is typical New York. Welcome to town, why haven't you won a Super Bowl yet?

Being the optimist I am, I would say any discord happening right now is just growing pains, and the team should gel once they get comfortable with the scheme. Ryan built a powerhouse defense in Baltimore and has good personnel on the Jets to do it again.

No love for Leon Washington? Of the Jets offensive corps, he would be the only one I would consider drafting at this point. For leagues that score special teams yardage/TD's he would make an excellent RB2/RB3.

Keller is a #1 TE in any 12 team league.... especially since he is the ONLY viable TE on the Jets' roster. Leon holds more value in ST's leagues, but Thomas Jones is still a very viable #2 RB. Leon over TJ? Not on my draft list! Sure, SG will get some action, but if as most expect, the Jets run even more than last year, there should be enough touches to go around, and the guy who rushed for the most yards in the AFC last year is not about to fall into RB oblivion.
