Rant from an L.A. government school teacher

This rant took place at a La Raza rally at UCLA in California. The speaker is a man by the name of Ron Gochez. He is a history teacher at a government high school in California. This man is making a living from U.S. taxpayers. In just a minute you're going to be really ticked off about that.

So we have a government school teacher, speaking at a La Raza rally. Are you ready for his rant?

I want to start off by saying that the young man who spoke a little while ago was one of my students. That made me so proud, because you know, our people have strong leaders for years and years to come. As a [spanish] militant com barrio [ph] - a revolutionary Mexican organization here -- we understand what the camarade's [ph] saying. This is not just about Mexico. It is a global struggle against imperialism and capitalism.

But we know that all that is happening within the context of where we now stand -- this stolen, occupied Mexico. And the message that we bring is that we want to bring a little bit more of a revolutionary context to this. Why is it that these people, these frail, racist white people, want to keep us out of this country? It's not simply that it's the color of our skin. It's not simply that they want to exploit us. I'll tell you why. It's because on this planet right now, 6 billion people, at the forefront of the revolutionary movement -- is La Raza.

When you hear from our commandantes, Fidel Castro Ruz, Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales, Brazil, Equador, you name it, we have nine, nine left of center governments in Latin America right now. And they know something that one young Argentine, Che Guevara, said. It was called the domino theory. And he knew that every single country would go revolutionary, one after the other, after the other, after the other.

So what do they fear? They know that every single country, they know that we will no longer fall for these lies called borders. We know that an El Salvadoran, a Guatemalan, a Nicaraguan, an American -- there's no damn difference. We are all one people.

So, with that in mind, we see ourselves, all of us here, as the northern front of a Latin American revolutionary movement...

Easy solution, don't let public school teachers speak in public.

No, I was being sarcastic. What my suggestion would be is to not let that guy teach your kids if you think he will brainwash them.

I was being sarcastic in response. My point was that brainwashing (although there's probably a better choice of words) occurs whether it is capitalism or socialism you are preaching. An educated, unbiased view on both stances in the classroom is okay in my opinion, but speaking about the ills of what made this country is a whole other thing. And I don't think this guy should be teaching anyone's children, let alone mine.

With things like earth day, forcing kids to pool supplies, and telling my kids the form of gov't under which we live is a democracy, it's pretty much par for the course with all gov't schools isn't it?

Fixed and also noted that without them we would be way behind where we are.

Actually we pay them a fair wage to rebuild the city, if it weren't fair they wouldn't be flocking here by the millions to take the job.

Dumbest thing I've read in a while, thanks for sharing.

Please explain why you think this is dumb? If the wage wasn't fair, why would people risk crossing the border to work here? Just because it isn't artificially inflated doesn't mean that it isn't a fair wage for the service provided.

Reduced from what? You act as if there is some magic scale out there that dictates what a person should make. With Union labor this is true, but in a non-union environment the wage scale is dictated by what people are willing to work for. For instance, my sub crew makes, say, $1.65 per foot for certain types of buildings. Thye make this whether it be a Messican, Black, White, or other type of brown crew. Lateyl, though, there are competitors that are telling some of the subs, hey, we'll only pay $1.35 per foot for the same work. A bunch of the subs are telling the low paying guys to f off and some are taking the work because there is so little work to be had. Is it fair that other companies are paying only 1.35 for labor, hell yes, that is what the subs are willing to take.

So, these guys come from Mexico, you know the ones that you don't want deported, and are willing to work for a lower wage, again, WILLING, to work for a lower wage. That is the price they put on their labor. They have every opportunity to tell the guy that is offering the wage to go f himself, the wage is too low. But in most cases they don't, why, because they view it as a FAIR WAGE.

Fair wage is all in the eye of the beholder. A fair wage in the US is extreme wealth to 95% of the rest of the world

Not for long...

Please elaborate. Not on the ninja magic part, which incidentally, I don't fully understand, either.
