Perchoutofwater
I love Tahoe. I was talking to the wife about maybe going there between Christmas and New Years this year. I've only been a couple of times during the summer, and never really left the casinos. I want to go again in the winter to see if my fat ass can still handle Gun Barrel at Heavenly and KT-22 at Squaw.
Controller
For breakfast in South Lake Tahoe, go to the Red Hut on Hwy. 50. Locals and tourists alike love the place. For Calzones, go to New York Pizza on Al Tahoe at Hwy 50. Back in the 1970's, their calzones were the best anywhere. They're not quite as good these days, but still very good. For a beach, most people go to Zephyr Cove which is about 4 miles east of stateline on the Nevada side. Lots of parking but also lots of people. Better yet, find "Chimney Beach" , an unmarked beach on the east side of the lake, about 15 miles from stateline. Ask the locals how to find it. It's about a half mile hike from the road to the beach, but well worth it. No crowds and the water is deep and clear. Don't bother going on the MS Dixie - a boat that packs in a bunch of tourists on a very boring ride around the south shore. Not enough seats and nothing to see - after 5 minutes you'll wish you never got on board. Unfortunately, the ride lasts forever. Golf is wonderful in the summer around Tahoe. Several great courses to choose from. If you have time and want to take a day trip, visit Virginia City in Nevada. About an hour's drive from South Lake Tahoe - a real old west town with saloons and wooden sidewalks, etc. Have a designated driver to maximze enjoyment of the saloons. 85thatstright10
Just got back from Tahoe yesterday. Was up there for a good 2 weeks doing some work on the family cabin. It's a great time to be visiting Tahoe. Don't know what you really enjoy doing but golf was already suggested and some courses were provided to you. Other than that just enjoy the beauty of the lake. Maybe go down to the beach...there's richardson beach which is in south shore, which is a long sandy beach. Take a trip to the casino's which are right there. I went to Harrah's while I was there, didn't stay too long as I was gone quick after I lost $275 on 3-card poker and a couple othet table games. If you like to sight see a little bit I highly suggest you take a trip (about 20 minutes) to Emerald Bay which i just west of S. Lake Tahoe (was going to provide a link to a pic of the bay but I don't want to ruin it for you). Beautiful bay with a island in the middle. I also recommend a place called Firesign Cafe. Best eatin' up there. You'd have a little drive to get there but it won't disappoint. If you like eggs benedict you have to get that....absolutley the best I ever had.
