rocknrobn26
I know I heard something about this during the season, but didn't realize it was in stone. If a team kicks a field goal after receiving the overtime kickoff, the opponent will have a chance to match that field goal or score a touchdown to win the game. If both teams kick field goals, or the first team fails to score, the game reverts to sudden death. If a team opens overtime with a touchdown drive, the game will be over. LINK... WaterMan
Wow thanks for posting that. I wonder if this will change the way people will place bets?
loaf
I bet this rule won't be used this Season

Pope Flick
Peter King brought up a good point: the rules state each team gets an OPPORTUNITY to get the ball. So if a team decides to open the OT period with an onsides kick and recovers, the other team would be SOL since that was their opportunity. Food for thought, especially if you're playing the Saints. Chief Dick
I hope we see an overtime game this year. Would love to see the clusterf.uck this is going to be since nobody is really prepared for it.
redrumjuice
If the first team gets a FG, then the opponent automatically gets 4 assumed downs. Seems like an advantage. If the first team gets a FG, then kicks off. On the first offensive play the defense gets an interception, while running he gets stripped/fumbled and what was the offense gets the ball back, don't matter, game over. This rule is ST00PID knee jerk bullcrap for something that was not a problem.
Whiskey Pimp
There's no way someone tries an onside kick to start OT. Basically the only scenario where it is not sudden death is if the team that receives the opening kick goes down and gets a FG. Any other scenario (TD, turnover, punt, onside kick recovered by kicking team) results in sudden death.

He also said that if the first team throws an INT and the other team recovers it but them fumbles on the same play that was their opportunity
Furd
This rule is ST00PID knee jerk bullcrap for something that was not a problem. This. In 2010, 19 games went into overtime. 2 were decided on a first possession FG.
