Louis Murphy arrested for Viagra?

Raiders WR Louis Murphy was reportedly arrested Sunday morning for possession of Viagra without a valid prescription, failure to obey an officer, and non-violent resisting arrest.

All three charges are misdemeanors. Murphy was pulled over for a loud stereo, first ignoring the officer then refusing to show ID or put his hands behind his back. It was until after Murphy consented to a vehicle search that officers found 11 Viagra pills in a bottle with the label torn off because the receiver didn't want his girlfriend to know his performance was artificially enhanced. Murphy was also arrested back in 2006 for Josh Gordon possession.

Good grief. This has got to be the dumbest arrest ever. Seriously coppers? Nothing else better to do? You arrest a guy for 11 Ginsuing Viagra pills? Nothing like making the headlines...man I hate cops sometimes.

I don't know man but this should NEVER had escalated to an arrest. For Viagra? Are you Ginsuing SHAM WOW!ting me? This is nothing but Cop Fame. And they searched his car for loud music? Really??? I really do miss the police officers of old. That bread may never come back in this day and age of headline seeking Shark Vac-bags.

Why buy black market pills? Hasn't he heard of doctor/patient confidentiality?

He probably can't get it up for the wrong reasons like excessive alcohol and drug consumption. I doubt someone who is 23 years old is really having issues like this.

He was being an ass obviously. I don't like when cops abuse their privileges. But honestly if he got pulled over for having a stereo bumping too loud that means that it was definitely loud enough for the cop to hear clearly in his car. Which would in fact mean it is hurting his ability to drive. He can't hear other cars horns to things of that nature. Just a distraction, cop probably would have let him off with a warning or a very minor fine. He didn't want to give his ID to a cop? The entire issue is Murphy's fault.

I'm the kind of person that never really sides with a cop. I mean I'm in college and a frat. Cops aren't on the list of things i like.....but things like this are just stupid. Could have totally been avoided. Has nobody to blame for this but himself.

I agree...but police officers have the ability to show restraint before making an arrest. I can almost guarantee once it was learned he was an NFL player, the cuffs were not coming off. He'll get a couple "atta boy's" in the morning briefing for it. Makes me sick.

He had to have been a royal ass to get those charges. I don't feel sorry for him one bit. You're not above the law and the cops showed him that they can bust you for anything if you decide to not play nice.

If you're nice, they'll let you walk as long as it isn't something serious - gotten out of countless tickets and other street violations that way.

Having only limited info, I gotta agree with Infinity and Twiley on this. Sounds like Murphy is the reason this escalated into an arrest. I am sure violation of a noise ordinance is just a fine and Murphy probably could have just gotten away with that if he hadnt tried to big-time the cop. Now, who knows? Maybe the cop was following him just looking to tag him. In that case, I'd be pissed, too. But cocking-off to a cop is just dumb any way you slice it and a guraranteed way to make your own life difficult. I learned that lesson the hard way and it appears Murphy is, too.

I don't know the specifics of his actions. :sigh: I just guess I miss the good ole days when a police officer would show some constraint.

Being a veteran of 11 drunk tank holds, my feelings have changed over the years. Used to be I would get a free ride home, now its just robotic to these guys to lock you up, no matter how nice or cooperative you are.

What makes me sick is the lack of respect that is sometimes given to police officers. Do what they ask and you probably won't have issues.

As soon as he doesn't show ID or put arms behind his back all bets are off. Bust him for everything possible and teach this punks a lessons that police officers deserve respect.

I have MUCHO respect for police officers. I was one in the Military. And trust me, while it doesn't equate to the civilian world in many aspects, I have seen and worked with the type of guys I'm talking about. Total duechebags with a gun and badge.

If you don't want to get arrested, don't have illegal prescriptions (I couldn't care less what the prescription actually was), don't blare the music in your ride and when a cop invariably gives you SHAM WOW! over it, don't be an ass.

Very simple.

I guess it can be conceived that I am defending him. Look, I don't know the exact details of what happened. All I'm saying is there is a level of restraint that alot of police officers fail to provide when dealing with professional athletes. Yes he commmited 3 misdemeanors and the arrest, in of itself is warranted. I'm just saying...show some restraint once in awhile. Maybe I don't just don't consider "Viagra" and loud music that big of a crime

I've been thrown in the back of a cop car for less and I wasn't being a jerk about it either.

Could you argue that I might have deserved lighter treatment there? Yes. Was I doing something wrong? Absolutely.

No real ground to stand on. Shouldn't matter who you are either.

Here's the problem, GB:

first ignoring the officer then refusing to show ID or put his hands behind his back.

Sounds like he was begging the cops to make his life miserable, and they accomodated him. IT also sounds like he had an easy way out:

Cop: Hey, kid, turn down the stereo. The music's too loud.

Murphy: Okay. *Turns down stereo*

Incident over.
