Best money you've ever spent

Recommended Posts

The combo of wedding in Vegas (Venetian) for a week with 45 of our closest friends and family and the honeymoon 6 months later in Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice). The wife and I are still high almost 5 years (and two sons) later from the whole experience!!

It's either that or the $7.50 I spent for a Primo Italian Hoagie the other day....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....good!

There is probably a better answer for me if I think hard enough but the first one that comes to mind is the 700 dollars for the bar tending course

+4 would have payed double in "hindsight" lol

Never having to worry about not seeing during the night, while swimming, contacts getting dry, my allergies have been greatly reduced, just overall quality of life is much much better

Damnit, now I'm thinking about getting lasik. I've heard it is s expensive and my contacts don't bother me the vast majority of the time so it's hard to justify the cost when you bear out the expense over the years. How much did you guys spend (if you don't mind me asking). I was assuming it was 3 or 4k per eye.

If I remember correctly it was about 4k total, which includes any further touch ups if needed (I think price is prescription dependent). I'm 20/15 and have been for at least 4 years now, can't remember exactly when I did it. I could have had it done for 1k less, but the place I chose was highly recommended and the procedure was done by an eye surgeon rather than someone who just does the procedure and then refers onto a surgeon if there is a problem. I am a "frugal" person and put it off for 3-4 years before biting the bullet, but best money spent! You can do a FSA account at work to have it done tax free. I set up my appointment in Nov/Dec to get the pricing and schedule the date in January. I then setup my FSA to take the exact amount every paycheck to cover the expense. The one bonus is that if you leave the company before the year is out, you don't have to pay the remaining amount (this is the upside, while the downside is the use it or lose it aspect of FSA).

Dang - it was cheap and that was maybe 7-8 yrs ago.

Maybe $1200 total.

Similar situation to paulzale. I went to TLC here in town instead of heading to Canada like many of my friends. A little more money (maybe not since I saved travel expenses) but a lifetime guarantee. Spent $3600 total in 2004 and used my cafeteria plan to set aside the money pre-tax. Have had 20/15 vision in both eyes since the second day after the procedure.

It has been incredible not dealing with contacts or glasses while I'm hunting, fishing, camping, working around the yard, playing sports, etc.

Oh, I have.

Can't anymore what with responsibility, wife, kid, etc... they actually throw you in jail if you get caught with that stuff nowdays.

I don't have a car, house, child or pet so that kind of narrows it down but I'd go with money spent on travel to places completely unlike the US.

For things that improve my daily life I agree with Scooby. If you cook you need to get a forged chefs knife.

I would say the extra hundred bucks or whatever it was to see the "high risk" specialist late in my wife's last pregnancy on our own initiative. she told us to get in for a c-section the next day, while the docs from the OB practice were going to wait another week. he came out with low blood sugar and had to get fed on an IV for a couple days. I don't know the odds one way or another, but I kinda have a feeling in my gut that the decision may have saved my son's life.

Last thing I can recall was the extra $40 on my Southwest ticket for preferred boarding. Not really for getting on the plane in the first herd group, but for getting through security MUCH faster. Bypassed the "normal" line snaking through to the scanners. I'm just pissed they didn't have this when I was travelling a ton.
