Police issue warrant for husband in bride's death

By the CNN Wire Staff

updated 10:06 PM EDT, Tue May 15, 2012

(CNN) -- Police are looking for the husband of a bride who was found stabbed to death in her bathtub on Sunday. She was still in the sequined cocktail dress she wore to her wedding reception, police said.

Authorities in the Chicago suburb of Burbank, Illinois, are looking for Arnoldo Jimenez, 30, on a first-degree murder warrant in the death of Estrella Carrera, 26. Jimenez is still at large, police said.

Jimenez and Carrera were married on Friday at City Hall in Chicago, according to authorities. Carrera's cousin, Sandy Lopez, told CNN affiliate WBBM the couple had been together for three years.

They celebrated their union with family and friends with dinner and a limo ride to at least one nightclub, according to police. The newlyweds were dropped off around 4 a.m. on Saturday, and proceeded home, police said.

"She was happy. She was fine. Did nothing out of the ordinary at all," Lopez told WBBM.

On Saturday relatives called police to say Carrera had failed to pick up her children, ages 2 and 8, police said Monday. Police later found Carrera, wearing the same dress she wore at her reception, dead in the bathtub of her home. There were no signs of forced entry, police said.

"(I)t is important to know that this appears to be an isolated incident stemming from a domestic situation and the investigation is continuing," police said Monday, before obtaining the warrant.

Lopez told WBBM she had "no idea why somebody would do this to her."

Jimenez was last seen driving a black 2006 Maserati.

Burbank Police, in conjunction with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, continue to investigate the case. The police department did not immediately return a telephone call Tuesday seeking comment.

1. THey interviewed a bunch of illegals and none have been deported

2. The dead bride evidently has already had 2 kids outta wedlock.

3. She drops her kids off and stays out til 4 AM and was, according to a friend, "doing nothing out of the ordinary at all."

4. The illegal Mexican is driving a black Maserati, seriously, how difficult is it to spot a MExican in a black Maserati?

What do I win?

And some more...

A manhunt is now under way for the 6-foot, 220-pound Jiminez, who was last known to be driving a 2006 black Maserati. Burbank police said they have no record of employment for Jiminez, and have no idea how he got a $120,000 car.

"It definitely raises questions," said Capt. Joe Ford. "We can't find any employment (record). It's a very expensive car, and he has no record of income."

I wander if that's what swammi found odd. I agree to an extent, sounded like a simple wedding, not a large extravagant (and expensive) one. But the groom drives a Maserati? Doesn't mean he's guilty of murder though. But from this last piece it does seem odd that he'd be driving such an expensive car with no record of income. Maybe it was a gift from a friend ;)

Associated Press:

CHICAGO — The sister of a bride found stabbed to death in suburban Chicago said her new brother-in-law called a relative on the day the body was found and said he left his new wife bleeding after a "bad fight."

It's the first detail to shed light on what evidence investigators may have given a judge to obtain a first-degree murder warrant for 30-year-old Arnoldo Jimenez. Police said they are aware of the account and are looking into it.

A manhunt is under way for Jimenez, who is accused in the slaying of Estrella Carrera, 26, shortly after they celebrated their marriage on Friday with friends, said police in the Chicago suburb of Burbank.

Police are pleading with Jimenez to turn himself in "for the sake of his family and especially his children," Capt. Joseph Ford of the Burbank Police Department told the AP. "I am sure they are very concerned for his well-being."

Most of the bride's family disapproved of her relationship with Jimenez, who is the father of one of Carrera's children, a 2-year-old boy, according to an older sister who talked to The Associated Press on Wednesday. Jimenez had hit and bruised her sister in the past, Jazmin Carrera told the AP.

The sister described Jimenez as "very possessive" and jealous. She said she doesn't understand why her sister married Jimenez on Friday at Chicago's City Hall. The wedding plans seemed rushed. Jazmin Carrera missed the celebration at a restaurant and nightclub after the ceremony — she'd been invited via a last-minute text message from the bride.

"It was just all of a sudden," Jazmin Carrera said. "She didn't give us enough notice."

Family members became concerned when Estrella Carrera failed to pick up her two children Saturday as she'd arranged. They were unable to reach Carrera or Jimenez by cellphone, so they asked police to check on her well-being. That's when the body was found in a bathtub, clad in the silver, sequined cocktail dress she wore at the wedding reception. Ford said it was possible she was also wed in the short dress.

On Sunday, relatives heard from a sister of Jimenez that he had called that day, Jazmin Carrera told the AP.

"She said that he was crying and he was really nervous," she said. "He said they had a really bad fight and he had left her bleeding."

Jimenez hung up on his sister and wouldn't pick up when she called him back, Carrera said.

Ford said Jimenez was previously arrested for domestic violence in another city in a case that did not involve Carrera. Police don't know what Jimenez does for a living, although he was last known to be driving a black 2006 Maserati, an expensive car.

"We do not believe Jimenez is a danger to others, but we certainly do not know his mind frame at the present time," Ford told the AP.

After Friday's nuptials, the couple had dinner with friends at a restaurant, then headed to a nightclub in a party limousine. They were last seen at 4 a.m. Saturday.

Since the killing likely took place mere hours after the couple went to Carrera's Burbank apartment, the suspect had a day to flee the metropolitan area or even the state, Ford said.

"It was a very brutal killing," Ford said. "We do our jobs every day, of course. But something like this really motivates you to work even harder."

Wouldn't the bride be wearing a wedding dress at the reception?

According to the story

She was still in the sequined cocktail dress she wore to her wedding reception

Jimenez and Carrera were married on Friday at City Hall in Chicago, according to authorities.

She was wearing the same dress she had been wearing that night during the reception (and presumably the wedding).

The additional details do not look good for the husband. If you had a fight and she was bleeding you do not leave, you get help.

And with the head start he had (over 24 hours) he's probably done more than just leave the Chicago area or IL as the police say, he may have left the country.

If his maserati does 185, as we all presume it can, and if he had over 24 hours to get somewhere he could indeed be out of the country, he could be 4440 miles away.

He doesn't have to stop for fuel?

Since he wasn't under suspion yet and being hunted by the police, he could have flown out of the country, or drove across the border into Canda.

Even if he has to stop for fuel, with that much of a head start, and not being part of a manhunt means leaving the area or state is hardly the biggest concern. Of course he could be your average dumb criminal and be found in hiding right in the same neighborhood where he lived.

Yeah speaking of the Europeans, they sit around drinking wine and eating tapas/antipasti/salt cod when they should be working. 5:01PM, everyone goes home. On Fridays, they don't even come back from lunch, and if they do, they're drunk. And forget about August, the continent shuts down, everyone goes to the beach for the entire month.

God I envy and admire them.
