I was trying to figure out how much the Broncos paid or will pay roughly for 2 years of mediocre football

Here is another article about how much his contract was worth, the dead money and the $37 million Denver avoided paying due to Russell's release.  Still they are out $85 million for the next two years.

His DEN contract was 5 year $242.6M, with $161M guaranteed, only $124M of that fully guaranteed. I think that $37M difference is the 2025 salary, which they are avoiding based on the info in story you provided.

That's $161M for 2 years, or about 80/yr.   Watson has been paid "just" $46M a season, 3 years gone from 5yr/$230M contact.

Russell Wilson, formerly of the Broncos, agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Steelers.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news, but Wilson himself has confirmed it. Per Schefter, it’s a “team-friendly deal” in a year where the Broncos are on the hook for an astronomical $38 million in Wilson salary.
