For your draft order, do you use previous league results or previous playoff results?

    • Draft order was setup by previous league regular game results
      1
    • Draft order was setup by previous league "playoffs" game results
      5
    • Draft order is setup random every year

We have one owner that is making a point to allow him to draft this year where he finished the regular season last year(he finished fourth so he would draft # 7 this year in a ten teamer). We have used...in the past our league playoff results to determne our next year's draft order...where the above mentioned owner finished first in the playoffs and NOW woud draft 10th(or last in the opening round!)!

What do your league do to establish drafting order for the next year?

Thanks! :D

There is a similar thread going in the Fantasy advice forum.

If it is a non-keeper league, then the previous season shuld have absolutely no affect on the next season's draft order. The season's are totally independent events.

If you have keeper's, then previous year's finish should have some affect on the next year's order, though the importance of this increases with the number of keeper's, as if you only keep one or two players, most teams are still starting out fairly equal in talent level. Most leagues I have seen use the final playoff order for their draft order. Many also utilize a lottery for the early picks for the non-playoff teams or the bottom 3-4 teams to help prevent tanking at the end of the year.

Hope this helps.

Well put BC. Having keeper/dynasty leagues follow professional draft guidelines (worst to first) is reasonable, but re-draft leagues should handle the draft positions like they handle the draft - throw everything back in a hat and start from scratch.

A local redraft I am in did the following :

We took the order each team placed last year (after playoffs) and then went from place 10 up to 1 allowing each individual to pick where they would like to draft this year. Seemed to work out pretty well but will probably change again next year.

If you're not going to go completely random, I like this method the best.

Our redraft is completely random every year. It used to be picked at the start of the draft, but a few of us got it changed to make the draft order a few weeks ahead of time. Not because you NEED to know, but the anxiety in planning and waiting was killing me. It's nice to be able to actually plan a little bit knowing your spot ahead of time.
