Crazysight
As a lifelong Pats fan it pains me to say this, but I think their run is over. Beyond player needs I think they have coaching needs that may be even greater as their new 29 year old offensive coordinator failed to impress me last year. That pick Brady threw to Champ Bailey during their playoff game in Denver was one of the worst play calls I've seen as a Pats fan in a long time. Oh well...it was fun while it lasted. Czarina
I'd like to think they've got a little something up their proverbial sleeves. They just reworked Cory Dillon's contract last week and freed up even MORE cap space.

Bill Swerski
--CB Tyrone Poole (released). --CB Duane Starks (released). 1392414 With Harrison's future up in the air (health? retirement?) and Poole out of the picture, their secondary is the most important thing right now. Samuel and Wilson are both solid, but they definitely need a #2 CB and it'd be wise to draft a SS to replace Harrison when the time comes. And they're definitely going to need a possession WR to replace Givens. Brown might have a year left in him, but they're going to need a long-term solution. As a lifelong Pats fan it pains me to say this, but I think their run is over. 1392468 Agreed, but they'll still be competitive, especially in the "AFC Least." Donutrun Jellies
They need to move to the NFC where they'd still kick tail. While the secondary and WR could use some immediate attention, they'll be fine. They've got Brady, Dillon's going to be healthy, Belliman is still coach ... They'll be fine. Let's look at the inconsequential releases there: Duane Starks, Tyrone Poole, Cedric James, Tim Dwight, Christian Fauria, Matt Chatham, Chad Brown. What do I mean by inconsequential? I mean who cares! Not one of those players made a major impact on the Pats last season The only one the even showed up in a few box scores was Tim Dwight. All of these players are easily replaced by comparable players on the FA market, and the Pats will do it for less money that they would have spent here. Consequential losses: Adam Vinatieri, Wille McGinest, David Givens, Tom Ashworth. What will happen: Vinatieri - Honestly, I don't know. As someone that didn't miss seeing may kicks last year, though, I can say I only lament the loss of Vinatieri in a loyalty sense. I don't believe that the Pats will immediately come up with a much better, or even better solution, but I do think that signing Adam to a 4 year deal would have been a bad idea. Let the search for a new kicker commence. McGinest - I was much more upset at this than I was about Adam, but at the same time I understand the thinking. Willie is 34...a little long in the tooth for an OLB/DE combo. I think you will see the Pats come up with a nice veteran in the LB core (maybe Arrington), and they can do it at OLB or ILB. If they bring in the replacement at ILB, this allows Vrabel to move back outside. I also think you might see them draft either Kiwanuka from BC or Lawson from NC State to play a similar role in the defens for the future as Willie has played in the past. Givens - Caldwell. He will be fine if he's healthy. Not quite Givens good in the past, but we haven't seen Caldwell play with Brady yet. Ashworth - We have Neil, Light, Kaczur, Koppen, and Mankin Logans ( ), with Hochstein as the first back-up. Look for hem to find a smaller school player or a BC O-lineman (which they have shown a taste for). Other main areas of need: RB, WR, DB. I think you will see 1 RB, 1-2 WR, and 1-2 DB drafted. What they draft will depend on what's available at their pick. Make no mistake that they will reach or draft for most need. They will pick the players they think re the best players for them at the draft spots. I think in the first round you will see Kiwanuku, Tye Hill, LenDale White, or DeAngelo Williams. I do think a first round RB is a good possibility this year, and I think White is exactly the type of grinder they would like. At the same time, I think a DB is the most likely choice, even with the good young bucks they have. In the second, I think if any of the aforementioed players are stilla vailable, they would get snapped (unless that meant double dunking ar RB), and then I think you will see them revier the RB, CB, FS, SS, DE/OLB and WR positions. I think WR is the least liekly sel;ection yere. The most likely pick is DB if they didn;t take on in round one, then OLB/DE. I think if they don;t take an RB in the first they will most likely wait until the third for one, and be looking WR and OL there as well. I would not be shocked to see them skip drafting an RB either, but I do think this is the year they look for their player.

I like every move that they've made this offseason but they don't help in the win category obviously for next year.
Doc Holliday
I think they should of tried harder to keep McGinest. I also think they will miss Givens more than people think. the rest of them will IMO be easily replaced. And with the Bill still at the helm I expect another year in the playoffs for the Pats. TripleW64
I think the Pats should be fine in terms of making a good run at winning the division. They definitely have needs at WR and they need Dillon to stay healthy. IMO opinion the biggest "FA" losses were the co-ordinators over the past 2 years. But they still have Little Bill and TEDI (I'm Chuck Norriss's daddy) BRUSCHI 'nuff said.

But I know the organization has a plan to minimize that, and as with other years so long as they get some talent at those spots the new personnel will be well adapted and contributing at the necessary levels by midseason. I don't think the team will be impacted more than potentially by playoff spot. I think it is a good bet that they will win another division championship, with Miami being the only real contender. The other players are inconsequential. Sure. there os something to be said for players 'knowing the system', but none of those players logged lots of time. They will be replaced as a group with equal or better talent. What does a video game have to do with it?

Asante Samuel was the only one that really impressed me, but I only watched about 4 or 5 Pats games. 1393201 Hobbs was pretty good for a rookie. He got burned a few times, but overall I liked what I saw from him. I generally expect a rookie corner to miss some plays, and even more so I expect him to be a solid part of the defense this year. Gay (as I just remembered...not Gaye...) spent a good deal of last season playing hurt, mostly because the team couldn't afford to lose another DB. I think they put him on IR later in the year (IIRC). He's a player that I think will be really good if he can get his health under wraps. That is a growing concern for me. He went undrafted because he was viewed as an injury risk, but Belichick signed him on Saban's recommendation. We can only wait and see if he can kick the bug.
