Bleh 1495883[/snapback] I concur.....but you probably didn't have much choice..... Rudi will probably be the best RB at 1.08 and you've got to get the best of the rest on the way back. Chambers may make a nice 1.....

Jones and picked up any of the top WRs as they were still on the board but I just can't break out of the Rb, rb, wr mold I use when I draft. I was tempted to grab a QB with the 4th pick but again, unless manning is still onthe board, I can't do that. But I picked the middle of the pack because I think between picks 5 - 9 you have the biggest challenge as an owner in a 12 team league to put together a team that will win but with limited choices on impact players. If you are 1 - 3 you are gold with your pick and if you are 12 in the 1st you get back to back and can get an okay RB, high impact WR. It's challenging to draft in the middle. But of course you end up with a team like I'm drafting right now. Edited June 2, 2006 by cliaz

NAUgrad
The only pick of the 4 I don't like is J. Jones. The C. Taylor pick is exactly the kind of strategy I like to use. High risk but potential high reward.

tomfin2000
But I picked the middle of the pack because I think between picks 5 - 9 you have the biggest challenge as an owner in a 12 team league to put together a team that will win but with limited choices on impact players. I agree. That's why I feel that when you pick in that range, you need to look outside of the RB position for your impact players. In other words, my strategy is to accept the fact that I'm not going to have the best RB tandem in the league and look to offset that disadvantage by having an edge over the other owners at as many positions as possible. I think Rudi was definitely the right pick in the first round. You HAVE to have at least one RB that you can depend on. However, after that I would have possibly gone for something like this: 1st - R. Johnson 2nd - T. Owens 3rd - A. Gates 4th - T. Brady Now I've got a solid (albiet not spectacular) RB1, and a WR1, TE, and QB that should be near the top of the heap in scoring at their positions. I can then fill out my WR corps in the middle rounds and hunt for good value at the RB position. If I can just hit on one sleeper at RB, even a Ruben Droughns type of player, I should be competitive week in and week out. Honestly, most FFL gurus would probably say that your strategy was much better because I'll spend the rest of the season looking for starting RBs, but my experience is that the production you end up getting from the 2nd round backs like Julius Jones pales in comparison to what you get from the top players in other positions. cliaz
UPDATE: I hate how people walk away from these drafts or take 11 hours and 54 minutes to do their picks Anyways: RB Rudi Johnson CIN 1.08 RB Julius Jones DAL 2.05 WR Chris Chambers MIA 3.08 RB Chester Taylor BAL 4.05 QB Matt Hasselbeck SEA 5.08 WR Derrick Mason BAL 6.05 Hurting at the WR position and this is a TE optional draft. I had to go with Haseelbeck in the 5th because all other QBs worth anything went off the board. I was suprised to get Mason at 6.05 and hope that McNair does indeed wear the purple and black. I think now I can start picking up value players and hope and pray I can get something good as my 3rd WR. I am not happy at all with this draft but it is what it is. Pick 8th over all is a slighty hard position to build a high impact team with. Edited June 3, 2006 by cliaz

Skilly
Just my .02: Javon Walker, 4.08. That is a serious reach IMO. Guy is coming off a bad knee injury, and he's basically slotted to play the #2 wideout. He might be productive enough this year, but I think the value of picking Walker in the 4th is risky. And Cliz, I think your draft is going fine. I like the Chambers pick---that guy is a stud, and hopefully Culpepper can find him often. jgcoach
I think RJ, JJ, and C. Taylor could be great stable of backs. Chambers could be a good #1 depending on QB. I think you're off to a good start. Hass. is a good qb but I may have opted to go w/r there depending what was out there but, I tend to wait on qb sometimes a little too long. darin3
Yeah, he should have gone WR in the second, other than that he is doing fine. Agree. Unless there is a flex position, I simply don't agree with drafting a third RB before your first WR. Please refer to the following, yet again: Today, we salute you Mr. Three Running Back Drafter.(High-pitched singer): Mister Three Running Back Dra-af-ter! (Deep voice): You believe in drafting your third back, before getting your first wide receiver. (HPS) Gotta be ready for the bye weeks. (HPS) Mister Three Running Back Dra-af-ter! (DV) You make it miserable for the rest of us, because you just keep drafting backs. (HPS) Gonna use them all as trade bait. (DV) So here's to you, Mr. Three Running Back Drafter. You'll never get burned by taking Terrell Owens, because you're too busy drafting Tatum Bell.
