FWmaker
So we know that Seau just signed by the Pats after retiring from football (and the Dolphins). Do the Dolphins get any compensation for this? If not, I would think this would be an area of potential abuse. I didn't see/hear anything on this. Any of you? Big John
The Dolphins officially released him on March 6, so under the rules, there is no compensation.
nuke'em ttg
The Dolphins officially released him on March 6, so under the rules, there is no compensation. Case Closed............ all i heard on Sports Talk yesterday was how he burned the Chargers for throwing a retirement party for him, and him not being upfront with them..... I think he is a first year eligible HOF player. Part of what made him so great was his ability to be athletic and improvise. You HAD to play Jr. on the weak side because you could NEVER count on him to be where he supposed to be in the scheme. He would hit the wrong gap, blitz when he was supposed to drop, etc. You had trouble game planning for the guy because you never really knew what he was going to do in any given situation. But, his instincts and athletesism combined to give us the pleasure of watching one of the best ever. Passion, fearsome, play maker, leader. You have sited exactly why he is NOT going to be a good addition. His head still tries to react like he did when he was younger, but his body can't compensate. He doesn't stay "at home" and in the Pats D, you need your inside guys to be WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE! That system breaks down with add-libbing. I think Coach B is gonna have a coronery infarction watching him run around the middle. Alas, another aging vet that doesn't know when to hang them up! I guess I forgot to add EGO to that list
Chargerz
This is Seau's last shot at a ring. He couldn't resist the offer.
The Vatican Hitsquad
I think he had a better shot at a ring staying with a Miami team on the rise than a Patriot team on the way down. New England is good, but no way are they a Super Bowl team anymore.

New England is good, but no way are they a Super Bowl team anymore. Miami just couldn't see paying him at this stage of his career. According to Zach Thomas, Jr. was a great leader in the clubhouse, getting the guys pumped up, keeping a positive attitude, helping the younger guys stay motivated during practice and game time. The problem was he wasn't much help on the field do to injuries that plagued him the past 2 years and with Miami running a 3-4 now, they had an abundance of LB's and had to let him go. Jr. looked around for a team but the only ones interested were teams that were "rebuilding" i.e. crappy teams, and he didn't want to play for a loser, which at this point in his career I can't blame him. I would have to say the the over/under of games Jr. suits up for the Patsies is 6, especially as the cold weather starts to come around. The weird thing, then if no other team was interested in cluding Miami... why did NE wait until he retired before pickign him up. 3 Day retirement? What advantage did they gain in that than tryign to get him a week earlier when he wasn't retired? Is it a case of Miami not lettign him go to a div rival, so NE asked him to retire so they could then sign him? If that is the case, I think Miami could have a complaint to file with the NFL. I don't think he mislead them. I think he beleived he was done and that no one seriously wanted him. I doubt he would have talked all of that non sense about graduating. He's been laughed at by everyone since.
