What is the Deal with Helmets coming off?

I remember when a guy lost his hat in a game it was a big deal. I would be like holy *#@#@! he was hit so hard his helmet was knocked off. I was always relieved that his head was still attached to his body and did not go with the helmet. Well, this year it has gotten out of hand in my opinion. Guys just get a love tap and it goes flying. What is the deal? Maybe they want to be seen on TV? Don't those chin straps work anymore? Is there some advantage to having a lose helmet?

Just a hunch, but I think it may have something to do with the skull caps many players wear under their helmets. Those things are slick, and could cause a helmet to slip off when it might otherwise stay on.

I noticed that a lot of NFL players don't fully fasten the chin straps. There are 2 snaps on each side and I frequently see only one snap on each side being used.

In amateur football, all snaps are required to be used and the refs enforce it by telling the player to fasten them all or to go to the bench until you are able to do so (equiptment failure).

To my earlier hypothesis, I'd like to add dreadlocks/braids. SJax's helmet pops off routinely, Vick lost his hat this week (braids + scullie, a double header!). :D

Ego and Vanity - not fastened tightly, helmet comes off, player gets their whole face on National Television. Ever notice when a player trying to put his helmet back on looks like he's trying to solve a Rubik's cube, even taking as long to put his helmet on? It takes .06 seconds to put on a helmet, so what's the hold up? More face time on TV...
