Falcons Lockeroom Altercation

I've read reports of an altercation between one or more Falcons and D. Hall in the lockeroom after the game. Anyone have anymore information?

His temper and inablility to keep his mouth shut directly lead to the Panthers taking the lead and winning that game. Maybe some teammates took offense?

To say-"Smith took him out of his game" may be the understatement of the season so far.

What I found ironic was until that drive, for whatever reason, Smith had no impact. Not sure if it was because of Hall's play or Carolina's inability to get him the ball, I'm guessing both. To go from shutting down one of the best receivers in the game for 3 quarters to handing them a TD and the momentum to win the game because you're unprofessional is rediculous. If I were a teammate I would be steaming. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Smith got in his head and set him off, proving, one can help in other ways. I was not refering to the actual "playing" as Smith was off yesterday period.

I've been looking for a story on this as well, as the rumor I read was that several teammates beat him down in the locker room.

Prolly not true... but I just wish it were!

Maybe his inability to cover receivers had something to do with it too.

The local Atlanta news mentioned something about it last night but I wasn't listening and by the time I kinda heard what was going on they moved on to another story.

For those of us unaware of how the game ended, can we get a recap? What did I miss?

It's being blown out of proprtion somewhat.....that particular drive in question only allowed the Panthers to tie the game. The Panthers went on to add a FG and another TD after that to go up 27-17. So, the Panthers are not getting the credit for a solid 4th quater of football. The last time I checked it was 27-17 with 6 min to go and the Panthers held Atlanta to a FG making it 27-20, then Atlanta kicked-off with 3:40+ in the game. The Panthers then set up the run game, and Foster ran it down there throat.....gaining three 1st downs on the ground with some hard nose, breaking tackles efforts. Fosters last run off left tackle was for 9 yds and breaking numerous tackles to do so.....then it was neal down time in the Dome. It was much more what Foster did than what D Hall did or Smith didn't do this particular day.

I read this, this morning. Sounds like this is what probably led up to whatever happened inside the locker room....

- DeAngelo Hall Loses It --

Sun Sep 23, 2007 --from FFMastermind.com

#

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons starting CB DeAngelo Hall lost his composure during today, contributing to the team's 27-20 loss to the Panthers. Hall committed three penalties on one drive - two of them personal fouls involving Carolina WR Steve Smith — that allowed the Panthers to tie the game and eventually rally to a 27-20 victory in Atlanta's home opener. The last, and most costly, came after DE John Abraham sacked Panthers QB Jake Delhomme on third down to seemingly force a long field, that, if converted, would have pulled Carolina to 17-14. As flags flew, Hall jogged to the Falcons sideline, where, in a temper, he had words with assistant secondary coach Joe Whitt and then heatedly got in the face of HC Bobby Petrino. Petrino said something to Hall then Hall, in a temper, continued his tirade before teammates had to escort him away. Several players tried to calm Hall down, as did Whitt, but Hall was beyond flustered. He went back on the field after his penalty forced the disheartened defense back on the field to protect a 17-10 lead with the Panthers at Atlanta's 14. Two plays later, Delhomme connected on a five-yard touchdown pass to TE Jeff King to tie the score. Hall came back to the sideline after the game-tying touchdown, still animated. Whitt tried to settle him down but it took veterans TE Alge Crumpler and WR Joe Horn to talk him down. The damage had been done, though. Hall's personal beef with Smith, whom he'd held without a reception to that point, got too personal. And as a result, a team that needed a win in the worst way fell to 0-3. Hall's antics drew resounding boos from the disgusted crowd, who really unloaded on Hall after Smith caught a short hitch pass on the left side then slipped out of a tackle by Hall to gain a first down. That drive ended with a PK John Kasay field goal that put Carolina up by 10.

:D

Video in the middle of the page.

The two stars had been jawing at each other the entire game, with Hall holding the upper hand in the first half. However, on the first play from scrimmage after the Falcons went ahead, Delhomme threw deep down the sideline for Smith. Clearly beaten, Hall had no choice except to drag down the receiver for a 37-yard interference penalty.

Apparently frustrated, Hall gave Smith a shove to the upper chest on the next play, drawing a 15-yard personal foul. Then, with Carolina apparently forced into a field-goal try after Delhomme was sacked, Hall drew an unsportsmanlike penalty for continuing to jabber at Smith.

That gave the Panthers an automatic first down, and they quickly punched it in for the tying TD, Delhomme's 5-yard pass to Jeff King. Hall even got into it with his own coach, Bobby Petrino, before being dragged away by a couple of teammates.

"I felt like I was on the bad end of the stick," Hall said. "I felt like a lot of calls could have gone either way. They all went against me."

Petrino considered yanking Hall out of the game, but let him finish.

"DeAngelo understands that's not something we do," the first-year coach said. "We were in a position where we had a chance to win the game, and that (last) penalty gave them an opportunity to score a touchdown."

Smith piled on, clearly relishing his role in Hall's meltdown.

"He took a cheap shot at me," the receiver said. "That's the kind of player he is."

Hall's antics clearly turned the momentum in Carolina's favor, even though Delhomme went out on the next possession. He threw a short pass and quickly motioned to the sideline, even dropping to a knee before he could get there.

Not to take anything away from Carolina's performance, but had it not been for Hall's meltdown Carolina would have had to punt on that drive ultimately resulting in an overtime. Carolina would have likely still won the game with the momentum that they had gained, but Hall certainly did seal it for the Panthers by acting like an ass.

.......like I said, Foster gaining 30 of his 122 rushing yards on that final drive vs an 8 man front had nothing to do with the outcome :D . Alas, some see what they want to see in the beautiful game.

Football is a game of momentum. To deny that Hall gave the momentum away and allowed the Panthers to march on to victory is disingenuous. Until that drive the Falcons D had held Carolina in check and on the play that Hall got the Unsportsman Like penalty Abraham sacked Delhomme to force a 4th down and filed goal which would have left the Flacons in the lead and still with the momentum. Could the Panthers still have won? Of course but after that play I argue that the Falcons could not have won anymore. Hall's play on that drive enabled the Panthers to win and crippled the Falcons D for the rest of the game.

.......Panthers have the ball on their own 21 yd line with 3:30+ to play, ran it down the Falcons 8 man front, gaining 3 1st downs on the ground...moving the chains and making Atlanta burn it's 2 remaining time-outs. I saw the Panthers hold them to a FG making it 27-20, then just smash mouth with the running game. The Falcons played well in a division game at home, but a little to much anti-credit being bally-hooed about. DeShaun Foster 122 rushing yards and a TD, 13 rec yds and a TD. So, I'd say it was what DF did to the Falcons more than anything which is being lost in talk about the DHall fiasco.
