Huzz
yahoo article As a Cleveland Browns rookie in 2005, Edwards announced he'd give $10,000 in scholarships to 100 area eighth-graders if they could graduate high school with over a 2.5 GPA and 15 hours community service. Of the 100 who were afforded the opportunity, 79 met the criteria and have begun their first year of college. Many are attending Ohio universities, but the schools represented spread across the country and include Harvard, Cornell and Johns Hopkins. Hugh 0ne
Not sure if he's a "good dude" but this certainly is a nice gesture. Much better than what he's usually in the news for.
stevegrab
That's $790,000, about 80% of his 2011 $1 million salary (according to the article), plus he covered some other expenses (laptops, etc). I wonder if he is doing this for each year they attend college? The article doesn't say but I cannot believe that $10,000 would cover more than a year of college. If the kids couldn't afford college they'll certainly need help paying after the first year.

muck
But, if they do well enough in their first year, they could be in line for some grants / scholarships / etc. All he did was get them off the launching pad ... which is the most difficult part of any trip. Kudos to BE!

Many are attending Ohio universities, but the schools represented spread across the country and include Harvard, Cornell and Johns Hopkins. Anyone else find the wording a little confusing? Did he give each student who qualified $10K (as some here (and the writer) have figured) or did he give a total of $10K to be spread amongst all the students who qualified? The exact wording "$10,000 in scholarships" kinda makes it sound like $10K is the grand total, no? If each kid got $10K, the sentence should read "Edwards announced he'd give $10,000 scholarships to 100 area eighth-graders if they could graduate high school with over a 2.5 GPA and 15 hours community service", shouldnt it? Either way, its generous but there's obviously a big difference between the two Not sure if he's a "good dude" but this certainly is a nice gesture. So sad to see the way that show has jumped the shark since Michael left
