spain
This is the tale of 2 teams. The Titans and the Packers are both 4-11 and playing out the string. Neither have anything to gain by winning. But by losing they can potentially help their draft position. So, lets see how smart these teams are. The Packers go out and win a meaningless game against the Seahawks. The Titans are getting blown out 27-0 in the 2nd period. Another reason why the Titans will be back on top in a year or two. And the Packers will labor in mediocrity for years to come. kraftykraft
I agree with the sentiment that I would rather have a team that tried hard every game, than one that took a dive to get slightly better draft pick to spend on a guy who MIGHT actually help the team.... I'd rather take a bit of redemption in-season as opposed to taking a gamble in the draft; and you guys know as well as anyone that EVERY draft pick is a gamble. Next time someone tanks a game to get a better playoff position against you remember your words.

CaP'N GRuNGe
34-0 Jags Brilliant move by the Titans. Though I gotta admit I wasn't aware of the rule that allowing the most points in a meaningless game improved your draft position even more. Randall
The Titans are great at stinking up the field. Are they even trying for a first down? Oh, I forget, Spain said they'll be back on top of the league in a year or two. Edited January 1, 2006 by Randall

CaP'N GRuNGe
Looks like the Titans gave permission to the players to try now. No way could they accidentally win down by 40.

But they started Matt Mauck at QB instead of McNair or Volek. They needed to see him under real game conditions. Damien Nash got his most extensive work of the season. The Titans played hard but also used the game as a tool to evaluate many of their backups. And they get a better draft position to boot. Green Bay on the other hand, already knows what they have in Favre, an over the hill has been that needs to hang em up. But they start him rather than aaron Rogers? That was just stupid. So, they beat another team who is playing all of their scrubs in a meaningless game. Dumb and Dumber!

Dumb and Dumber! 1244135[/snapback] That is just plain dumb. It shows no comprehension of why fans come to see the game. In 5 years (if Favre does retire) the fans can say they witnesssed Bretts last game; done your way his final game would be a loss against Chicago. Going out a winner at home and with Mike Holmgren coaching his understudy(Hasselbeck) on the other sideline is something to remember. What will be the difference between the #3 and #5 picks? I think trying to lose sends a bad message to kids and hurts the credibility of the league. You may throw the game for nothing. Reggie Bush and Leinart won't be there at #3.
