Bill Swerski
well i was trying to think of teams that actually WON something. anyway, those teams put up some points, but none of them could dominate ball control with the running game like the 98 broncos could. you can make an argument for those, and plenty others (like the 92 cowboys, a team that COULD dominate ball control with the running game). but line them up player by player comparing all-around strengths and the 98 broncos definitely compare pretty favorably. Agreed that the '98 Broncos probably had the best running game in NFL history.
Big John
how about best defense and best offense? defense: 85 bears (easy) Or the 2000 Ravens defense?
Bill Swerski
Or the 2000 Ravens defense? The '85 Bears D gave up 10 total points in their three post-season games. I'd have to go with them.

Bill Swerski
And 7 of them were garbage points, IIRC. The other 3 were due to a Payton fumble deep in Bears territory. The '85 Bears had, bar none, the best showing of any playoff defense since the merger.

Sure the Bears had two shutouts in the postseason, but the Ravens had a whopping 4 shutouts during the regular season, and even after playing one more total game during the postseason than the 1985 Bears, they still only had 13 more points scored on them overall during the postseason. Although the Bears offense looked to be in a much better class than the Ravens offense when comparing these two teams. I'll go with the 1985 Bears still.
