Skippy
I've called the casinos in the past and just asked them. You should pretty much know where you are willing to go so you should only need to make a few calls.
spain
Last couple times I was there, the Excaliber and Ballys both had lots of fish. Anybody got any recommendations for where I can find alot of bad players in a $2/$5 NO LIMIT cash game? I plan to play mostly cash games with a few tournies thrown in for fun. But I am interested in grinding for hours and making some money. I might play some limit, but prefer NL as I am here to make some $$. spain
The Trop. Excalibur for sure. Luxor actually had some decent games w/ some fishies. I am staying at The Rio so will start there. But it is so dam hard for me not to just go straight to Ballys and Excaliber. Those are 2 of the largest fishbowls I have ever seen. There is a noon tourney at Caesars that I plan to play in too. spain
Hello all, Due to popular demand, and to help those planning a future trip, I have created this thread to answer a popular question posed on this forum: What are the best regularly run tournaments available? Though I have attempted to be objective, a lot of what one consitutes as the "best" is a matter of opinion. Nonetheless, the following list is generally considered to be the best, based on the overall opinions of most on the forums. The details link at the bottom of each tournament takes you to the AVP Tournament database details section of that tournament, which includes blind structures/juice/payouts etc. Best Tournaments for Under $100 Sahara $62 total buy in including all fees/single RB/addon 20 min levels 5K Total chips Avg # players: 70-110 11AM, 7PM, 11PM 7 days a week Details of this Tournament Caesars Palace $70 total buy in including add on (no RB) 30 Min Levels 2K Starting chips (including AO) Avg # Players: 40-60 Mon-Sun 11PM Details of this Tournament Best Tournaments for Under $200 Venetian $200 total buy in including add on; No RB (Bounty tourney; $10 to every knockout issuer) 30 Min Levels 3500 total chips Avg # Players: 70-90 Saturdays only 8PM Details of this Tournament Venetian $175 total buy in including single RB 30 min levels 4K chips including RB Avg # Players: 40-70 @ 8PM 30-50 @ Noon Sun-Fri Noon and 8PM Details of this Tournament Caesars Palace $130 total buy in including single RB 40 min levels 4500 chips including RB AVg # of Players: 80-110 Mon-Sun Noon Details of this Tournament Best Tournaments over $200 (i.e. Best tournaments in the City) Venetian $540 total buy in (includes Add on/admin fees/No RB) 40 min levels 10K Starting chips (including AO) Avg # of Players: 90-120 Saturdays only @ Noon Details of this Tournament Bellagio $1060 Total buy in (including admin fees/NORB-AO) 40 min levels 5K starting chips Avg # of Players: 30-70 (varies greatly) Fri-Sat 2PM Details of this Tournament Bellagio $540 total buy in 40 Min Levels 3K Starting Chips Avg Number of Players: 70-90 Sun-Thurs 2PM Details of this Tournament Wynn $330 total buy in (No RB/AO) 45 min levels 3K starting chips Avg Number of players: 90-120 Tues-Thurs @ Noon Details of this Tournament Wynn $530 total buy in (No RB/AO) 45 min levels 3K starting chips Avg # of Players: 80-110 Fridays only @ Noon Details of this Tournament Note that Caesars Palace requires a W2G form for all tournament wins over $599. Big Country
I have heard very good things about the Caesar's tournies (good structure, good mix of solid and fishy players), but, as noted, they tax you at the time of winning if you are going to be over the $600. I've also been told the room is immaculate, though I did not get the chance to play there last time I was there. Have heard the Sahara 11pm tourney is good, but, like most other tournies, has a pretty fast structure. I've never had a chance to play at the Rio as the only time I stayed there was during the WSOP so all poker was down in the convention rooms... but what an awe inspiring sight to see hundreds of tables going at once. I believe John Juanda and Scott Fischman are half midget though, which should excite cliaz. As for fish, nothing beats the Excalibur. The NL game is fishy, but decent money can be made in their $2-6 spread limit game. Why, because the spread structure allows you to punish those players that can't let go of their drawing hands preflop while at the same time these player will often let you in with strong drawing hands on the cheap. You get the best of both worlds by being able to bet a full $6 on every round. Luxor was fishy but their set up sucks and just screams for players to luck out. Blinds are $1, $1 and $2 (yes, they use a three blind structure)but the buy in is capped at $50... but, soon as you are below the $50, you can rebuy for another $50.. so, post your blind, fold, and rebuy to get you up to the $98 max essentially. TimC
As of right now, we're planning on playing the $200 at the Venetian on Saturday. I've heard it's really nice. Everything else is up in the air right now. We're gonna bounce around and see what's happening. I've heard the Mirage is a rock garden and Excalibur is where the rookies play (but they put caps on the betting I believe). Caesars is supposed to be nice also, we're going to definitely hit there. Harrah's (where we're staying) makes you pay taxes on anything over $699 or some B.S. because of the WSOP agreement. We'll probably avoid those places. You got my cell number...gimme a call if you find where the fishies are.
T_bone65
Caesars defintely has a very nice poker room and we found some nice fish there as well. This was last August when I was there last.

Big Country
Every site that I go to, tells me that MGM is teaming with fish. Ive never played poker there at all. Or at least I cant recall if I have played there... anybody else recommending that joint? It's not bad. RIght next to a bar if the drinks are slow, the games I played in (this was about a year ago) were fairly fishy with a few generous drunk donks. I got into a lively game where we were straddling every so often (of course, I get up against aces when I am with the straddle, took a nice chunk)

I got into a lively game where we were straddling every so often (of course, I get up against aces when I am with the straddle, took a nice chunk) I played there a couple years ago and got sucked out on. So I assume the fish level is pretty high there 'cuz I was playing it tight. I think no matter where you go, there will be a good ratio of fishies. Good luck and make sure to update us. Zooty
Ceasers- I've heard good things about the tourney structure but never played it Sahara- good but fast structure, small room, mostly locals and low limits at ring games Orleans- great spread of games but off-strip and somewhat tight, skilled players Luxor- fast structure, fishy cash games Excalibur- see above, low limits Mirage- it is a rock garden, tourney structure is ok and they run alot of them (SnGs) TI- new room, looked small for cash games I'd hit Bellagio or Wynn, unless you want lower limits, then go to Excalibur (they have a lame $1-$3 limit game) I think every casino has now opened a poker room. Most of the newer ones (Alladen, TI) are low limits and small
