H8tank
Last month, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and other members of Congress visited Damascus, flattered their hosts, and called for talks with the Syrian dictatorship. Last week Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice broke the administration's boycott by meeting with her Syrian counterpart. What has happened since then shows this approach to be totally wrong. As demonstrated in the state-controlled Syrian media, the regime took all the calls in America for US concessions as a victory proving that it could continue its policies. There is nothing subtle about it. Mamoun Homsi is a courageous pro-democracy activist who had been one of the few independent members of Syria's puppet parliament. In March 2002 he was thrown out of the legislature and sentenced to five years in prison. As he was dragged off to jail, Homsi shouted, "This is a badge of honor to me and others like me. Long live the people!" Released after four years in 2006, Homsi immediately left the country, saying there was no possibility of changing the regime by reform, and that any criticism would bring more imprisonment. Homsi wrote Pelosi a letter urging her not to visit Syria as such a step would only strengthen the regime. Last week, the government seized all of his assets in the country, leaving his family destitute. http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid...icle%2FShowFull Good job pelosi!!! ~ edit to add, read the whole thing. isleseeya
Dumb to visit syria ...we should bomb them , occupy them , spend billions of dollars and bankrupt our country in doing so and look for weapons of mass destruction while we are there ( actually we can use that as an excuse to attack them ) , then we can scream and shout mission accomplished and not be prepared for a civil war to break out This sounds like a good plan ...surprised no one else ever thought of it before ;oozingwithsarcasm:
Randall
But she gets a pass, right? Of course. She's a republican. And she also gets a pass when on the board of Chevron when they engaged in corruption in the Oil for Food Progrm. None of this explains why Bush refuses to even talk to Syria or Iran. Petreus and every other general say there is no military solution to Iraq. Imagine JFK refusing to talk during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Military and political dialog are needed not immature, "we don't talk to you" crap. They sound like a bunch of teenege girls.
AtomicCEO
Jerusalem Post. Gee... I wonder if they might have some kind of bias about about our diplomacy with Arab states? Why did she have to go? A better question would be "Why didn't anyone go earlier?" ... or "Why is something as common-sense as a conversation such a drastic change in policy?" Standing by a stupid policy because we'd look stupid if we admitted how stupid it is is even stupider than the original stupidity. (yes, that makes sense)
Brewer
~ edit to add, read the whole thing. H8, I think that would be a first for you. As you are trying to point out, Syria isn't afraid that we will drop by and kick their arse anytime soon. However, it is not due to any visit from Nancy Pelosi or condumliza rice. See, Syrians can do the math. Number of US troops - those mired in Iraq - those in Afghanistan = those left to come knocking on our door. Brewer
If you're serious about this, you need to get a lab. They've got very soft mouths, as they're used to retrieving birds. Well, 'cept for the ones that Cheney has, they need strong jaws to retrieve the corpses. Key point in the training is to praise them when they do a good job. Share the beer with them. If they don't, reinforce with the shock collar. You'll do fine, just keep at it.
H8tank
I wish Saddam was still alive to keep Al Queda outa Iraq. BAGHDAD, Iraq, June 8 — Al Qaeda's leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, was killed in an American airstrike on an isolated safe house north of Baghdad at 6:15 p.m. local time on Wednesday, top American and Iraqi officials said today. Islamic militant Web sites linked to Al Qaeda quickly confirmed the death, saying Mr. Zarqawi had been rewarded with "martyrdom" for his role in the war here. Who is that? Between Sept. 11, 2001, and the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, Zarqawi is believed to fled U.S. bombing in Afghanistan, traveled through Iran and sought medical treatment in Baghdad, Iraq between May and July 2002. He may have also gone to Syria and Palestine at some point. That is just one of many examples. You are an idiot.
