budlitebrad
The new OSU offense still needs work, but the defense is more experienced and was able to shutout Akron. Less than 100 yards of total offense.

Chavez
The new OSU offense still needs work, but the defense is more experienced and was able to shutout Akron. Less than 100 yards of total offense. The upside to weak OOC schedule is that it gives whatever the weak side of your team is time to gel. I know it played a big part in Wisconsin's success last year - their defense was very good and it managed to keep them on the W side of things until their inexperienced offense started clicking. wildcat2334
Big 10 has slipped to #5 overall. A funny read on the Big, Bad Big 10 in 2007 from Pat Forde's column Big 10 Television Programming Given the inglorious start to the season in the Big Ten Conference, The Dash has a few suggestions for altering programming on the league's new television outlet: 6:00-9:00 -- "Big Ten-ACC Challenge, the Football Version." Commissioner Jim Delany (15) uses charts, graphs and video to show that there is one BCS conference faring worse than his. 9:00-9:30 -- "Appreciating the Quality of I-AA Football." Lloyd Carr (16) is host. 9:30-10:00 -- "He Works Hard For the Money." Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz (17) explains why he's worth the $2.8 million he's making per year. (Video highlights of the Hawkeyes' loss to previously winless Iowa State not included. Video highlights of last year's 6-7 team, which began the season ranked No. 16, also not included.) 10:00-Noon -- "Great Moments in Big Ten Marching Band History." Noon-12:30 -- "That '80s Show." Highlight clips from the Northwestern (18) teams that lost 34 straight from 1979-82 are compared to the current Wildcats' home loss to Duke. Viewers invited to vote for which is worse. 12:30-1:00 -- "Insight in Hindsight." Minnesota athletic director Joel Maturi (19) reviews tape of the Gophers' 42-39 loss to Florida Atlantic, concludes that Glen Mason would have lost by more. "I guarantee you," Maturi says, "we will not blow a 31-point lead in a bowl game this year." Left unsaid: They won't get near a bowl this year. Joe Paterno might not question the strength of Penn State's schedule, but The Dash does. 1:00-6:00 -- "Woody Versus Bo Marathon." Fans invited to vote for their favorite handoff. 6:00-6:30 -- "Style Points Don't Count." Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema (20) explains why trailing UNLV into the final two minutes and being tied at halftime with The Citadel should not result in a rankings demotion for his Badgers. 6:30-7:00 -- "Great Halftime Adjustments." Ohio State's Jim Tressel (21) shows us why it's all about the second half in college football, ignoring fact that his team has been outscored 9-6 by Akron and Washington in the past two first halves. 7:00-Midnight -- All-time Indiana basketball highlights. Midnight-12:05 -- All-time Indiana football highlights. 12:05-12:30 -- Live look-in at Ron Zook (22) writing letters to recruits, promising immediate playing time and banana splits for breakfast. 12:30-1:00 -- "Undefeated is Undefeated." Penn State's Joe Paterno (23) defends his team's 3-0 record against opponents ranked 113th (Notre Dame), 126th (Buffalo) and 144th (Florida International) in the Sagarin Ratings. Guest star Joe Tiller (24) of Purdue chimes in about the challenges of beating teams ranked 86th (Central Michigan), 121st (Toledo) and 178th (Eastern Illinois). 1:00-6:00 -- Silent Film Festival. YOU are an Arizona Wildcats fan, they are pathetic........why does the strength of their conference matter so much to you ? Will it lift Arizona's final ranking from 75th to 73rd ? I AM a Penn State Nittany Lion fan, people are sleeping on us, and our defense is very good. Our offense has potential. While the strength of the conference may end up hurting us, if we would happen to go undefeated, I'm not too concerned about the rest of the conference. I just don't get the need to defend conferences, but, to each their own.
Rockerbraves
Big 10 has slipped to #5 overall. A funny read on the Big, Bad Big 10 in 2007 from Pat Forde's column Enjoyed the read, but I'm not exactly sure the Big 10 is as bad of a conference as many in the media would make them out to be. Big 10 overall record after week 3 is a respectable 26-7. Six of those teams are undefeated and 3 are currently ranked in the top 10. Granted many of those top 3 teams may have struggled abit against lesser competition, but they did win. The challenge for the Big 10 will be improving the media's perception of the conference when teams will be beating each other up in conference play. IMO Michigan will compete in conference and when they beat a decent team you know the media will bring up their two embarrassing losses. Coffeeman
good post Camel, I stand corrected- I had no idea JoePa's Lions had ended up that high the last 10 years. I realize they won the NC in '86, thought they had been mediocre since. Controversy will reign if the top Big10+1, Pac10 and SEC schools go 11-1 while Sooners and maybe WVU both go 12-0 and get the NC game. (I assume here USC loses a close roadie to Cal/OR, LSU/FLA split their 2 games, and PSU/Wisky stumbles once.) Is this the year that SOS takes a back seat to the undefeateds? I'm sorry, but the B12 and BigEast don't impress me at all this year except for the 2 top schools listed above - so it would be a travesty. I think the Big10+1 is down so much this year that your Lions/Badgers will lose out for sure, and maybe even a really strong Pac10 and SEC team gets screwed too. Like I said elsewhere, another USC Rose Bowl will over a B10+1 team is not the the end of the world, but our sights are set higher as of now... GWPFFL BrianW
1994 was #2 rank PSU, not 1992, and a highly controversial #2 rank as well. Many feel, including I, that a split national championship with Nebraska should have been in order. 94' PSU was one of the best teams ever. I believe that a late come back by a below average Indiana team scoring on some scrubs and making the score look closer than it actually was took PSU down from #1 to #2, despite winning the game. That would be like the 05' USC Trojans getting punished cuz they got taken to the wire by a mediocre Fresno State team, to put things in perspective. As for 2005, there was a more than average chance that the BCS could have had something like 5 one loss teams. Hamby catches a sure td for Ohio State vs Texas, gives Texas 1 loss. USC doesn't beat the very average Irish on the last play of the game. Auburn makes 1 of the 5 fg's and doesn't lose to LSU. That would give Texas, USC, Penn State, Ohio State, Auburn, and Notre Dame with only 1 loss that year. All close games decided by a play or 2.
