alexgaddis
My brother's favorite band growing up was old Van Halen...he was "lucky" enough to get tickets to tonights near sold out performance at the Target Center and he is stoked...he never got the chance to see them with DLR growing up... I am glad for him you couldn't pay my enough to sit through that show....
godtomsatan
I saw DLR @ a casino last year. Played every VH song i would have ever wanted to hear and had some Japanese dude that was a monster on guitar who played every Eddie lick note for note. The show was killer and made me think that I'd never need to pay $100 to see VH with a 16 yr old on bass.
Cunning Linguist
I saw them in 81' when tickets were under $12 You could get tickets, a concert shirt and a 6-pack of Red, White & Blue for about $25 back then... good times

tonorator
many reviews of their new show can be checked out here. they seem mostly positive. i'd love to see eddie again, but i don't think i could take diamond dave. he used to be one of the coolest people on the planet and now he's this grinning goofball (of course, he may have been that all along). combine old dlr with a 16 year old on bass who looks like valerie and it's a bit too much. let them come out with some new music and i'll show interest again. oh, and i'm never going to be able to get this out of my head. Exactly, so why pay the price to see the real deal do a poor imitation of his own schtick?

Bill Swerski
I saw VH in '04, which was their last tour with Sammy. Pretty decent show overall, although Eddie sounded somewhat sloppy (not surprisingly, I read a year later that he was hitting the bottle again). Sammy was excellent and did a nice solo set during one of the intermissions. It was worth the $30 price of admission, but I wouldn't want to pay to see them now with a washed-up Roth whose voice has gone to crap, Eddie a shell of his former self, and Eddie's son on bass. They need to retire.
whomper
I would imagine there are thousands of guitarists out there that can replicate Eddie note for note... Today they can because he has been so heavily ripped off and duplicated over the years..Back in the day he was very innovative and those players couldnt carry his Jock..Im not talking the stud guitar players that were his peers Im talking the wannabees

Could only get thru 1:17 of that video, as soon as the fiddle player went into his EVH SOLO I spit my drink through my nose.. GOOD STUFF. And that is probably a toupee for Dave, last I saw of him his hairline was farther back than a new porn star
Big F'n Dave
Saw the first show VH ever played with Sammy Hagar. It was at Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport and BTO opened for them. I might've gotten a little high. Never saw them with Diamond Dave, though.

I don't know the exact year but I would think it was right around 81. I think I went to that concert with $25 and came home with some change. Something along the lines of her parents lived there and she met him backstage and they became sweet on each other.. I never googled it but that was always a story I had heard. We saw all our concerts in the 70-80's at Hirsch.

The right large concert is still well worth it. Roger Waters earlier this year springs to mind - close to a religious experience, worth five times the cost.
