midwest huddlers

A buckling jet stream over the western U.S. next week may set the stage for stormy weather over a wide swath of the nation's Heartland the middle of next week. But with almost a week to go before the system actually reaches the Midwest--and at least two of the scores of recent model forecasts forcing the disturbance south of the region--questions remain. The two most common forecast scenarios develop either an inverted trough --one which lacks a clear circulation center but can produce waves of precipitation--or a classic storm around which winds howl. This latter scenario would be most apt to produce significant snowfall--though early indications put most of its moisture into Chicago in liquid form. Stay tuned.
