Sturphy
Heads up. Favre says he'll play. If Brett can't go, resigned Craig Nall will be starting this weekend. He's currently "cramming" the playbook. Rodgers is out for a couple weeks with a hamstring injury. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true "The Packers' quarterback situation became even more complicated on Wednesday when coach Mike McCarthy said Rodgers hurt his hamstring on Tuesday and could be out a week or two. Rodgers was 18-of-26 for 201 yards and a touchdown in the 37-27 loss to Dallas. The Packers had only two quarterbacks last week, but signed Craig Nall, a former Favre backup who left the Packers as a free agent after the 2005 season, over the weekend to provide depth. Nall is cramming to learn McCarthy's offense and took the majority of snaps in practice on Wednesday. If Favre's injuries linger after the Packers have clinched a playoff spot, which they would do with a victory on Sunday, McCarthy indicated he would consider resting his quarterback and possibly ending the streak. "That would be something definitely worth the conversation or consideration, because it's all about winning the world championship," McCarthy said. "And I know that's his primary focus also."" Randall
Thursday, December 6, 2007 Practice notes: Favre returns in full Quarterback Brett Favre appears to be a full participant in today's practice, his second since suffering elbow and shoulder injuries last week at Dallas. With a wrap on his injured right (throwing) elbow, Favre was taking all the snaps with the starting offense during the little more than an hour of practice reporters were allowed to watch. Favre missed Tuesday's practice because of another obligation and was limited Wednesday. Backup Aaron Rodgers, who injured a hamstring in practice Tuesday, wasn't dressed for practice, leaving Craig Nall as the only other quarterback in uniform. Cornerback Charles Woodson (toe) wasn't in pads but completed the 30-minute jog-through portion of practice before leaving, presumably to receive treatment. Also not in pads were: receivers Donald Driver, Koren Robinson and Greg Jennings; cornerback Al Harris, right tackle Mark Tauscher, linebacker Tracy White and tight end Bubba Franks. Tauscher (ankle), White (ankle) and Franks (knee) left after the jog-through; the others usually don't wear pads on Thursdays. Defensive tackle Johnny Jolly, out indefinitely with a shoulder injury, was the only player absent. Guard Jason Spitz went to the training room for a while, but he returned with a smile on his face and kept practicing. He and Junius Coston remain on track to start at guard this week. -- Tom Pelissero, tpelisse@greenbaypressgazette.com
Randall
If he does or doesn't start maybe it's time to work on the running game.
Grits and Shins
Nall is cramming to learn McCarthy's offense and took the majority of snaps in practice on Wednesday. What the hell is up with that ... shouldn't he have been learning it all season?

Big John
What the hell is up with that ... shouldn't he have been learning it all season? He signed with the team on Sunday and is unfamilar with this coaching staff's offense.

Big John
was McCarthy the coach back when Nall was with the team his first go round? No. Sherman was the last coach at GB.
MikesVikes
Is Favre in intensive care?
Sturphy
Yeah, Nall was a free agent signing of the Bills this season. I guess he was cut at some point, don't recall when. Anyway, he was a Mike Sherman era draft pick. Randall - Yes, this would be a really good weekend to focus on the running game.
Sturphy
Is Favre in intensive care? I'm sure he's receiving excellent care. Viking nation, you're so thoughtful, thanks. Edit: Edited December 6, 2007 by Sturphy
MikesVikes
Is Favre in intensive care? Btw, Jim Marshall checked himself out of a hospital one Sunday because he had a game to play. Nobody ever wondered who is backup was.

Edit: Was just wondering what it would take for Favre not to play this week. I'm guessing he's good to go unless he's in intensive care or something. Nobody ever wondered who is backup was. C'mon... we're talking about Brett Favre here. When have we ever had to talk about this in the past? Hell, the Packers have only had 2 QB's on the roster this season! And Jim Marshall was a stud. And apparently pretty dumb.

Randall
Is Favre in intensive care? I just can't see Favre standing on the sidelines. It would take an awful hard sell by McCarthy to get him to go along with it. If his arm was taken off he'd probably try throwing with the other one. They'd probably have to send him to Miisssippi or he'd be a major pain.

I'm guessing he's good to go unless he's in intensive care or something. I was only kidding around anyway. But, yes, it is unlikely that he'll miss the start unless he's hauled away. MikesVikes
Rodgers and Favre don't seem to be cut from the same cloth.
Sturphy
I don't have the stats in front of me (perhaps Keggerz can help me out) but it seems like every time Rodgers has seen playing time, he winds up injured. Although, I think I read that this hamstring injury was from Tuesday's practice. I'm hoping he's just been unlucky. Kinda like he's been unlucky in his quest to be a starting QB in the NFL. Edit: And ... uh.. unlucky that he wasn't the first pick in the draft. Edited December 6, 2007 by Sturphy
budlitebrad
Anyone and their mother can put 100+ yards on the Raiders. I doubt Favre is gonna need the deep ball, so I'm sure he'll be fine to start.

Bill Swerski
No. Sherman was the last coach at GB. Then I'm assuming that the offensive system currently used in GB is similar to the one used in the Sherman era?
Sturphy
Then I'm assuming that the offensive system currently used in GB is similar to the one used in the Sherman era? They're both WCO guys. But, I recall that there is a terminology difference at the very least. I remember articles about Brett learning the new terms.
