dmarc117
happened this past week out in the burbs. wife left with internet boyfriend, didnt tell anyone. cops do a search and rescue by river where she left her car. costs 250k. should she be liable for some of that? http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-1...an_N.htm?csp=

This is not the same as some fool ignoring advice and having to be rescued from a mountain or, like we have here a lot, some cretin driving his SUV on a frozen lake and plunging through the ice. She left her car and disappeared - people do this every day. Tens of thousands of people walk away every year.

Ursa Majoris
but she left a message with a friend saying there were 4 guys following her.......... I don't see that in the linked article but whatever, I do see that authorities ran a simple cell phone check and knew she was alive before she got in touch. Well if it's the last thing they checked and she had fallen in then she would be dead. Not that divers could have saved her or anything so maybe something a little more cursory would have made more sense.

dmarc117
Well if it's the last thing they checked and she had fallen in then she would be dead. Not that divers could have saved her or anything so maybe something a little more cursory would have made more sense. thats what im asking i guess. if they dont check the river right away, dont do a huge manhunt and take a day to check cell phone records. then she is found dead. does the family sue? cops didnt do enough? how should missing persons cases be handled? did she not for a second think that the authorities wouldnt try to look for her??? Sounds more like somebody jumped the gun at attempting a full scale river search.
