Savage Beatings
Pretty interesting given the speculation that Shockey would not be returning to the Giants next year. Reese says here that they have no plans to trade him or release him. Despite some speculation around the league, Giants general manager Jerry Reese told Newsday this morning in an e-mail that Shockey "is our starting tight end." The Giants have no plans to trade Shockey as they prepare for NFL free agency and the draft, nor are they considering releasing him this off-season. Riffraff
FF owners crack me up sometimes. Cut/trade an all-pro when a back-up has a good game or two. Doesn't happen like that in the NFL.
Sturphy
That statement could be a set up to trade him though. Make it appear that he's valuable to the team.

It's more than just Boss having a few good games. Shockey appears to be a chemistry problem with Manning and probably the rest of the team after the double-fisting Superbowl baby act. At the very least there's the pretty public appearance of a rift and drama between Shockey and the team. "Locker room cancer" was coined in the NFL, wasn't it? Now maybe the reasons for the speculation simply don't hold water, but I think that they warrant attention. And it's newsworthy to have the GM respond to that speculation by reassuring people that the Giants want to keep Shockey. And as Sturphy pointed out, maybe its all just a ruse anyway, trying to boost Shockey's perceived value in the league.

Don't discount the rumor machine we FF peeps can generate. The media caters to us. It's all about the stats for us. Boss was catching the ball well, but stinks as a blocker. Sturphy
I'm not sure how much this matters, but Shockey is also not a Reese guy. He was an Ernie Accorsi pick. Think that matters? Probably a little right?

spanky08
I heard that Shockey criticizes his own QB and sometimes would scream at him in the huddle what is that. And also not flying with your team to the superbowl when invited and not showing up to the parade come on now. I dont think they are going to keep him, i think they are going to cut him because a player like that just brings the team down, i think Reese is just putting him out there to see what they offer. And yes i know he is a pro bowl TE but i dont think they want him back after all when he wasnt playing and boss was Manning was very consistent out there so just time will tell
RC94
IMO Shockey is very overrated. Plus, he has an attitude problem and Eli clearly played much better and felt much more comfortable as a leader on the field when Shockey was out. I would definitely be in favor of trading him. Dirty Sanchez
I think Shockey saw first hand what the Giants can do without player distractions. So it's up to him if he wants to be a part of this "team" or continue being all about him. He's one of the best all-around TE's in the league. I hope the Giants keep him and he comes back with an attitude change and hungrier than ever to win.
budlitebrad
According to ESPN, the Saints have inquired with NY about Shockey.
