My wife drives a suburban. I drive a Silverado.

I do have a Ranger and a Nissan but we don't drive them much. They don't seem to fit enough kids.

Gas mileage sucks but my wife drives 7.5 miles round trip and I drive 5 miles round trip to work.

That includes us dropping the kids off daily.

Same with us. My wife drives a mountaineer but mostly local

Besides Atomic's electric car adventure, is anyone actually driving less, or in some other way using less gasoline than they have in the previous year or two?

I've been commuting on a bicycle - two birds, one stone - less gas money/wear and tear on the car + a decent workout (only lost 15 lbs but lost probably 4-5 inches off my waist).

My big issue $$$ wise is that since we've had our daughter:

- we eat out FAR less

- we don't go out to movies

- we don't drop $50-80 Friday and/or Saturday out at the bars

Of course, the $260/wk day care bill is blowing quite the financial hole in the side of the good ship Chavez.

I have an SUV. I like it but the gas mileage sucks. I would buy another. Or maybe a minivan someday.

I have a Saturn Vue - smaller SUV, gets about 22 MPG city. And that's with ME driving - I like to pretend my last name is "Unser."

Only get about 17 with our GMC Envoy. Heck, my car only gets about 22-23...Chevy Impala...

I got 18.8 mpg all highway in the Tahoe last week. It's a stock Vortec 350 except for a K&N intake. I'd like to open up the back end with a cat-back system - should provide another mpg and some extra horses. I mention that only because opening up both ends of any motor will generally yield 8-10% better fuel efficiency for a few hundred bucks - a quick payoff really.
