SEC. 101. LICENSING REQUIREMENT.

Section 922 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:

`(aa) Firearm Licensing Requirement-

`(1) IN GENERAL- It shall be unlawful for any person other than a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to possess a qualifying firearm on or after the applicable date, unless that person has been issued a firearm license--

Don't worry about it, I am sure it's nothing.

Dang, it's illegal to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm? *gasp*

The Blair Holt Bill is in congress and calls for all ownership of any handgun or rifle to be licensed in the US. There is no such requirement to be licensed to own a firearm federally and most states do not have that far as I know. This bill limits ownership, not just the sale or transfer of a firearm. It is not illegal to own an unlicensed firearm because in almost the entire country, there is no such thing as a licensed firearm (other than for an automatic weapon perhaps).

Blair Holt Bill in Congress

cannot imagine something so broad would ever pass. I can assure you that the entire state of Texas would ignore it.

GA and WV would probably give the Feds the finger too. Unless they tied it to federal money like they did with the speed limit 30 years ago. Then every state would roll over and spread their legs right now...

C'mon, WV. It's not like a lot of states are needing the federal tit more than ever these days.

For some of us in blue states it's a new experience.

For those in red states (apart from Texas), it's business as usual.

Interesting you say that. According to this, Milwalkee's public schools will get something close to $89 million for schools even though they are sitting on a surplus of property and no plans for new construction...

Ursa's in MN, not WI. The pattern likely holds for MN and a lot of other states too.

The mayor of SLC is going back to DC to lobby for a share of the pie.

We apparently need IRO $1 billion or so. We have a budget shortfall of about $4.5 billion over two years. Go figure. Anyway, the rumor is that we may get as much as $3 billion. Presumably our politicians will immediately spend it on a better recount system.

:D

Found this - budget shortfalls by state:

The scary thing is just how badly these numbers have inflated since this was published. CA is over $40 billion now - NY is over $9 billion. The article is from Sept. '08.

Makes it all the more stupid that our idiot politicians handed back $600 to each couple here in Minny back in 2003 or whenever instead of keeping it as a rainy day fund. The same people who screamed the loudest for that tax cut in good times are the same ones screaming loudest for tax cut in these bad times.

It is all nuts. Utah is contemplating tapping into its rainy day fund - we're a few hundred million in the red right now. Thankfully, the gov is asking the legislature to tighten its belt first.
