peepinmofo
Why exactly do people label a player as a franchise QB just because they are picked at the top of the draft? I dont know for certain, but Id say it is more likely that more "franchise QBs" have been taken outside the 1st round. I understand they are putting the franchise in his hands, but lets take Stafford and (dirty) Sanchez for example - They havent done anything, yet they are the franchise QBs? How about Joey Harrington, Alex Smith, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, and any other past "franchise QBs"? I hate the term, and think they should be called "potential franchise QBs", or anything other than "the guy that will be there for 10 years". And if I see one more Sanchez interview, I think I'll Enough already. Yeah, we know the Jets traded up for Sanchez. All of a sudden he's getting more publicity than the other top 5 draft picks combined. Odds are one of the two falls flat on thier face as a pro QB. I do like Sanchez' prospects a bit better than Stafford's based upon what I saw in college, but then I though Ryan would struggle as a pro QB with his affinity for picks in college also... Frankly, I don't see either guy as a true "franchise" QB. Edited April 27, 2009 by Bronco Billy
tazinib1
Can we please leave Ryan Leaf out of any conversation involving "Franchise QB"? For the sake of sanity? Thanks

rajncajn
Because hope is a good breakfast, but a lousy supper. Hope is like Chinese takeout, it fills you up but it leaves you hungry for more an hour later.
The Irish Doggy
Everyone hopes they are getting the next Troy Aikman, John Elway, Manning brother, McNabb, etc.
Jackass
According to this web site, Josh Freeman qualifies: there is no doubt that Freeman will become the franchise quarterback
BeeR
I guess that means "plays for a franchise" then.
bushwacked
Agreed. And if I see one more Sanchez interview, I think I'll Enough already. Only a matter of time before Chief Dick starts giving routine updates on Sanchez's hair.
godtomsatan
I don't think a franchise QB means anything other than a guy you build the offense around.

Brentastic
I'm pretty sure they are labled 'franchise QB' because they are drafted with the hope of being just that. Obviously, only time will tell if the label sticks. Boy, that Sanchez guy sure is dreamy. On a sidenote, I saw that for awhile, Sanchez was wearing a mouthguard colored as the Mexican flag. I thought it was kinda corny considering he admittedly doesn't speak very fluent Spanish and he was born and raised here in America. He probably did it to gain street cred which is even more Megan Foxy.
