Lahoma from Oklahoma

Lahoma Sue Smith was arrested and charged with prostitution in Oklahoma City last week after she allegedly agreed to perform a sex act on a man in exchange for a case of chips. The box of Frito chips was worth an estimated $30.

The John in this case was cruising an area known for prostitution problems, and he had the case of chips in his back seat. Lahoma Sue Smith and the man were in a parked car engaged in a sex act when police approached them.

The man who was caught with our junk food loving prostitute, Lahoma Sue Smith, told police he worked for Frito-Lay. He reportedly told police that he was having trouble with his wife and needed company. When he told Lahoma that he didn’t have any money to pay for sex she agreed to accept the chips as payment.

Police did not arrest the John, but did arrest Lahoma Sue Smith for prostitution and driving on a suspended license. She pleaded not guilty to the charges, and received a fine of $1,142. You know how many bags of Fritos you can buy with that kind of money?

Can someone explain to me why prostitution is a crime?

And when they're done with that would they kindly explain why they never bust the person paying for it? I mean, it's either a crime or it's not. If it's a crime to take money for sex, then it's a crime to pay money for sex. But they always send the dude on his way.

You guys have a good point. Where do you draw the line? Bring a chick out to a fancy restaurant and then back to your place afterwards for some dessert? Or skip the restaurant and throw in a bag of chips for a few minutes in your car? We have all been prostitutes or Johns.

I will still argue that the dude overpaid for her. She isn't worth a single chip, imo.

St Paul police post a picture of every john they catch on their web site.

States' rights, my man.

FWIW, I don't think prostitution should be categorically illegal. But I do think street level prostitution should be.

It is illegal because if it were legal, it could be taxed and health codes applied keeping the prostitutes and johns healthy. It would eradicate cruel pimps who prey on runaways and homeless women. I personally think protecting us from each other is a big enough job without worrying about protecting us from ourselves. But that's just me.

Not sure if I agree or disagree, just curious why you feel that way?

There's lots of things that are legal, but that I don't want to see going on in front of my house or business. More importantly, where there are hookers there are other issues (drugs, graffiti, pimps, johns, traffic, etc). I keep my sex within the confines of my privacy, and I expect the same from others regardless of whether their sex is casual or professional. Or, at a minimum, I'd be okay with certain areas (aka a red light district) where its cool to walk the streets, but you have to be licensed or whatever. Just because it's legal doesn't mean it should be come an unchecked free-for-all.

I'm fine with whorehouses, I'm fine with escort services, internet ads, whatever comes with a modicum of discretion.

Fair enough, and I agree.
