bushwacked
President Obama and the Dalai Lama rank at the top of a new poll measuring the world's most popular leaders.

driveby
The last time His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet came to Washington, President Obama refused to meet with him, worried that he would anger China before a planned Beijing summit with President Hu Jintao. But on Thursday, the president finally met with his fellow Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Only not in the Oval Office. And not in public. The brief meeting in the basement Map Room was "closed press," and the White House barred still photographers from capturing the historic moment. Despite his campaign pledge to provide unprecedented transparency into his administration, the president allowed only a White House photograph to be released - and that was posted on Flickr.com, not the White House's official Web site. How ironic.
The Wolf
I really don't think there are any respected leaders in the world. I know there are no true leaders in the U.S. any more.

bushwacked
Barack Obama averaged 57% job approval during his first year in office which ties him with Ronald Reagan and betters Bill Clinton.

bushwacked
It's obviously difficult for some here to deal with the fact that people respect our president. People complain about political hijinks amongst our leaders but it goes further than that, the base is manipulated.

Perchoutofwater
Well, if Obama was running for Secretary General, I guess this would be a good thing. The fact that he has a higher approval rating outside the US than he does here is quite telling.
