Holy manure Keg, you've gotta hook me up on some finance deals. That's gotta be some serious jack you've got invested in that yard.

It was done over 3 yrs so that helps spread out the pain. Considering I always underestimate and end up spending an extra $100 here and there all phases ran more than I expected. But if memory serves me phase 1 was around $4-$5k. Phase 2 cost much more than I anticipated mainly due to the cost of the Envirofill so that was around $2k. Phase 3 was around $500. So around $6.5k-$7.5k. Not chump change but hate to think the cost if I didn’t do all the work myself.

Well here's my afternoon:

20230401_173059.thumb.jpg.4ad0b0f3bb33da4d5966e509335f337d.jpg

working my final sand. 80 grit to knock off the excess epoxy and...

Mother (the really bad word)er!!!

Yeah, I said it out loud and threw down my sander as well...

20230401_173104.thumb.jpg.2fde698a302e84cbc0ff610545a41b84.jpg

(the really bad word), I'm so pissed. This puts me a board short... ugh.

Damn, thanks stinks. Are you going to be able to source another board?

Because of this you just reminded me of when we installed vinyl plank flooring. I screwed up a bunch of planks with bad cuts. Then on my final plank I needed to make a cut and I screwed it up. Had to buy an entire extra box because of it.

I can,  but if I want it to look like the others my source is difficult to coordinate with since his place is about 45 minutes away.

At least you have that option.

Since Rajn made me remember my flooring project I figured I’d post it here.

Tore up the carpet and installed vinyl plank flooring. This is my MILs room and she has cats, hence getting rid of the carpet.

Again, this is a first for me. The first two runs made me almost throw my hands in the air and hire someone to do it for me. But once the first 2 rows were in things went much better.

Was pleasantly surprised how this came out. Especially with how it started.

Here another project I did late summer last year building a privacy screen (there’s a neighborhood playground on the other side of the trees).

As much as I wanted to be able to do this by myself, I had to have my wife help hold one end of the boards while I attached them since they were almost 13’ long.

Initially we were going to make it a living wall but then decided against it. So I took the opportunity to sell my wife on adding a removable movie screen!!

The pipe frame was installed back in phase 1 of the backyard project so I could hang cafe lights above the fire pit area.

Here’s the before pic:

Step 1 was a trip to Lowe’s for the lumber. Good thing I’m only 2 miles from them!

I decided to cut and stain everything before installing it.

First step was adding 2x4’s to each side so I could hang the horizontal boards. Used pipe straps and then added a screw thru the pipe strap into the pipe.

Now it’s time to hang the boards so I made these contraptions to make sure my spacing was the same between boards.

Here it is finished. I also added a 2x4 down the middle to hopefully help keep the boards from warping. Plus we liked the look it added to it.

For the screen I added this pulley system to each side to make it easier for me to get the screen up and down.

And here are a couple of  shots of the screen up and in action.

Fwiw, the projector I got was far from something great and/or expensive  Got this one off of Amazon for $150 (it’s $133 now with the coupon). I use it with a Fire TV stick but I did run a 75’ HDMI from my electronics closet (formerly a coat closet) under the house snd can access from under the porch because of the hinged section.

Was pleasantly surprised how this came out. Especially with how it started.

I've done laminate flooring in my house twice. The first time was finished about a month before Katrina. We just did carpet after just because it was easy,  but have since went back to laminate in all except the bedrooms. The second time was definitely much easier with the experience.

ETA: And tile in the kitchen, foyer & both bathrooms courtesy of @SteelBunzof course. ;)

Just finished up some luxury vinyl tile in 2 bathrooms and a kitchen for a rental property. Five doorways to undercut...it all married to original hardwoods. Turned out nicely! 👍

You do awesome work. Just don't sneeze too hard. ;)

Mind the gap...

I've got all the boards I need now,  provided I don't break anymore. Now I'm trying to space them out. I found out real quickly that not every board should be drilled on center. Glad I used test pieces prior to drilling.

I'll have to shave a little off the top and bottom pieces and will need to do a bit more sanding,  but otherwise I'm getting close!

Just had Sunday to work on the bench and spent it tying up details. I got the last 3 boards ripped down to width, drilled the remaining bolt holes and put epoxy on the few cracks and chips that bolting & drilling the boards caused.

Sanding, sanding more sanding and cutting today. Still more sanding to go.

Today I sanded the last of the epoxy work as well as the newly ripped boards for the top and bottom edges of the bench. I also cut down and sanded all the leftover cedar scraps I had to 12" lengths. Going to build a plant stand for the back patio with that. I think I may need some more epoxy for the plant stand boards though and will need to get some 2x2  cedar for the legs or just rip down some 2x4s.

The bench gets one last sand to a 300 grit, then starting the tung oil treatment. While I do that process I'll paint all the bracing straps and a final coat everything else.

This is an issue I've been dealing with for over a year, maybe it'll help someone else. Several months ago we finally bought a vehicle to replace my wife's van.  We bought the van in 06 and it's been a good vehicle, though I've hated it since the day we bought it as I am not a fan of minivans. If planned to sell it as soon as possible, but for quite a while now it's had an issue where you couldn't put gas in it without the pump kicking off. It literally took 15-20 minutes to fill the tank depending on your patience. I figured that there was an issue with the gas backing up into the fill tube, but I couldn't figure out why. I tried replacing the relief valve, I tried replacing the vent tube. I tried making sure the fill tube was clear. Finally, while taking apart the fuel intake system I pulled the charcoal vent cannister and when I did, bits of charcoal were falling all over the place. As it turns out , the barrier that holds the charcoal in the cannister somehow failed and the charcoal was plugging the vent tube. Three orders later and about $200 out the bank account later and I finally got the right cannister replacement (not easy to find) installed and the van is back up, running  and FINALLY on the market.

Another reason why it takes me so long to finish a single project...

Spent Saturday morning cutting all the dead branches from the trees and burning them along with a couple of stumps. Also went to a nursery and bought a bunch of plants for the front of the house. Unfortunately misjudged how many wed need, so gotta go back to the nursery today. Then got a large section to till and de-root before I can plant. Will post a pic of the landscape when the bench is done and in it's home.

No work on mother's day, but we did buy a new stand-up freezer Sunday evening. Now I have to move a hanging cabinet and rearrange my already packed garage to make room. Also have to fix a section of drywall while I have everything pulled away from the wall.

One step forward,  three steps back...

Have started the tung oil treatments. The pic is after one application. Working on the third application of about five today. Number of applications will depend on whether the oil is still soaking in or not, but no less than 5.

Actually got a lot done this weekend. Put the one treatment on the boards in the above pic, treated all my plant stand slats with linseed oil, cut all my boards for the plant stand legs and base and even started a new project in sanding down a scrap edge piece of wood that I'm thinking about making a shelf out of.
