IRVING, Texas - Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said putting together his coaching staff would be his top priority, and so far, he's not wasting any time.

After making two hires on Tuesday, Phillips added two more assistants on Wednesday: Veteran coach Ray Sherman and John Garrett, the brother of Jason Garrett.

Sherman, who spent the last two years as the Tennessee Titans' wide receivers coach, will coach the receivers in Dallas.

Garrett, the Cowboys' new tight ends coach, coached at the University of Virginia the last two years but has been on NFL staffs in Cincinnati and Arizona.

The Cowboys also interviewed Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst.

The Cowboys become the ninth pro team for Sherman, who has 19 years of NFL coaching experience. Sherman has coached wide receivers, running backs and has also served as an offensive coordinator during his coaching career.

Sherman has coached in Green Bay, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, New York Jets, San Francisco, Atlanta and Houston since 1988. His experience could be helpful for Jason Garrett, who is expected to have a major role in the offense.

While Garrett's official title has not been named, it's expected he will serve in an offensive coordinator's capacity, likely even calling plays. But with Sherman, Garrett will have another experienced coach on board along with Tony Sparano.

Sherman's hiring comes a day after the Cowboys added Dat Nguyen to the staff as an assistant linebackers and defensive quality control coach. The club also hired Wade Phillips' son, Wesley, as an offensive quality control coach.

IRVING, Texas - The Cowboys added yet another coach to the staff on Thursday, hiring Skip Peete as the team's new running backs coach.

Peete, who has held the same position the last eight years in Oakland, is the older brother of former Cowboys quarterback Rodney Peete, who played 16 years in the NFL, including the 1994 season in Dallas.

Skip Peete also played one year in the NFL as a wide receiver for the New York Jets in 1987. In 2005, Peete coached first-time 1,000-yard rusher LaMont Jordan.

In 2000, the Raiders led the NFL in rushing with nearly 155 yards per game under Peete's guidance. And in 2002, Peete's offensive unit helped the Raiders lead the NFL in total offense on their way to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Peete also has had success in the college ranks, coaching future NFL players such as Skip Hicks at UCLA and Curtis Martin at the University of Pittsburgh.

Peete becomes the fifth coaching hire on Wade Phillips' staff this week.

I've been wondering all day what the hell an "offensive quality control coach" does? :D

With Phillips hiring his own son and Jason's brother sure looks like we got a good old boy network happening.

How 'bout them good old boys!

That would be the gopher boy of the team. He does all the odds and ends stuff for basically anyone else. The benefit is he gets valuable experience just by hanging around learning the ropes.

Quality control coaches generally do stuff like break down opponents' tape for the coaches and self-scout the team to make sure their tendencies aren't getting too predictable.

It's basically a gopher, entry-level type thing for the most part. Making coffee and getting lunch for everybody certainly can be on the list of duties.

Beats all you ever saw

Been in trouble with the law

Since the day they were born.

:D

Sure he does, That's why the Eagles lost......

SNAP :D

Phillips is a man of his word. He told us in his press conference the Cowboys family needs to matter again. He's clearly moving in that direction. He's got a plan and is acting on it. Bully for him.
