piratesownninjas
I have a feeling that three or more runningbacks will start in a Texans uniform this year... I think Green is the most talented, but his knee's are shot... Chris Brown always had the potential, but he has an inability to play through any injury no matter how small, and Steve Slaton, while I love what he did in college, I see no way his small frame can withstand anything more that 5-8 touches a game. That being said, I still really like the Texans this year.

irish
“He was able to be a workhorse,” Boyd said. “He’s more of a scat-back-type guy, but he showed he’s able to carry some of the load, take some hits and keep us on the field. Looks as though whoever's healthy at the time, Ahman Green and/or Chris Brown will share the load with Slaton as the C.O.P back. Coach called him a scat-back-type and said that he's able to carry some of the load. So we may not know who will get what touches but we sure as hell know that they'll be alot of sharing and no sure-fire guy to target in fantasy drafts. i_am_the_swammi
I wonder if it was his gaudy 3.6 YPC against the Broncos 3rd-stringers that got the attention of the coaches? What do you think the coaches are going to say about him? Gimme a break.

piratesownninjas
I promised myself that I would never again touch a Texans runningback after the Domanick Davis fiasco.

piratesownninjas
that wasn't a fiasco, that was just sad to see a guy with his talent have his career cut short The Fiasco was the media reporting he would be ready to go week 1 and then it kept on getting pushed back farther and farther until the truth came out. Davis was a tough player and fun to watch though.

Maybe it's not so worthless

Bronco Billy
I thought both Slaton & Hart made mistakes not coming out after 2006. Both had very good years and would have been ranked pretty well just below the top 3 RBs. For Hart's 2007 season, he did well and while he went a little lower than I expected, he's looked good so far in his NFL play. For Slaton, 2007 was a disaster. He started fumbling the football with alarming regularity, he started tip toeing while running, and he lost a lot of work while setting his stock back significantly. I think he came out early after the 2007 season because he saw that he was going to lose the starting job and any real chance of being drafted by any NFL team at any time. I was a hugh Slaton fan after 2006. I thought he could have been a Barber/Westbrook type of RB. After last year, I'm down on him and his dramatic regression as a RB, and I haven't seen anything so far in OTAs or TC that makes me change my mind. The guy is going to have trouble holding a job in the NFL for more than 2-3 years.

Are you kidding How did Slaton make a mistake not coming out after 2006, if he was only a sophomore Even with Fitz's succes Slaton only stood to increase his draft stock with a solid junior season. Honestly, odds are he wouldn't have been eligible anyway Edited August 14, 2008 by Big Ernie McCracken

Yeah, I forgot that he played as a true freshman. He couldn't have come out after 2006. My bad. That doesn't detract from the rest of it. His career has gone in a downward spiral since the start of the 2007 season, and for good reason - his game has gone downhill significantly. Seahawks21
The one thing we know about Slaton as a pro is that opportunity will knock in HOU. He is at least worth being on someone's fantasy team from the opportunity aspect alone. He is a bit of an enigma at this point, pretty hard to call with much certainty what exactly he will do, but we do know he will get some form of a chance. Despite a lot of people being down on him for "regressing" (and rightly so, to an extent), you highlight the big factor with him: opportunity. If he can get his stuff together, he will be a surprise, especially in PPR leagues. He's definitely one of the "PPR RBs with upside" that I'm looking at this season. Hat Trick
I've drafted him late in my two drafts thus far and will continue to do so if he is there. I don;t expect him to be a stud or anything, but a bye week filler or maybe that I found gold (unlikely).
