Infinity
I can't find much on reports yet. But i have to say that the Patriots will definitely tag Welker. I can't imagine the Hawks don't tag Lynch, and I'm praying that Forte isn't gonna hang out in Chi City anymore so he can come play for the Jets. Just some hopefull wishes and figured I'd start this thread up as news pours in all week about FTs. What are people's thoughts about the Texan's situation with Foster being an RFA, I mean there are plenty of teams that would probably give up the first round tender if that was the situation, but then if you tag Foster you have to work out something for Mario Williams. 2012 Franchise Tag Value Quarterback $16.1 million Running Back $7.7 million Wide Receiver $9.4 million Tight End $5.4 million Offensive Line $9.4 million Defensive End $10.6 million Defensive Tackle $7.9 million Linebacker $8.8 million Cornerback $10.6 million Safety $6.2 million Edited February 21, 2012 by Infinity

tazinib1
The one player I see right off the bat that teams will surrender a 1st for if not tagged, is Mike Wallace. The Ravens and Patriots are 2 teams with low 1sts that will be all over Wallace if Pitt doesn't manage to get him signed. Sanders and Brown as the WR nucleus for Big Ben? He might just go on a raping spree if that pans out.

rajncajn
No hope for Colston? I hope they resign him. Brees will get done. I think the only holdup with him is structuring the deal in order to work in Nicks and/or Colston. I think between those two that Nicks will be the more difficult to sign & therefore they will use the tag on him.

That's gonna be a butt load of money for 2 G if they don't use the FT.

I'm guessing though he's going to want a fat signing bonus.
Big John
Does GB tag Flynn in hopes of getting something for him like NE did with Cassel? Seems risky. Signs are pointing to Finley being tegged

tazinib1
Then I see Forte holding out and not playing for the tag, then come back week 10 to acrue a season. I don't see Forte as the type that would hold out. Just my personal opinion.

detlef
Well if he wanted to remain a bear why not sign for the 30 million? Seems to me like he just wants some money Should we expect him to be any different than basically every other person involved in the NFL, including players and owners? Exactly how many guys involved in the NFL aren't actively trying to get what they can out of it?
Square
Well if he wanted to remain a bear why not sign for the 30 million? Seems to me like he just wants some money I'm going to need some kind of link to the specifics of that offer. Most of us know the guaranteed money is what really matters and the only contract I remember reading about was one that guaranteed around 11-13 million. If they have to franchise him he'll earn somewhere around 7 or 8 mil in that one year. When there are RBs that have produced far less and gotten bigger contracts, it would seem that the Bears have not offered a contract that is near what his market value is. Infinity
Stanford Routt has agreed to a three-year, $19.6 million contract to play in Kansas City, reports NFL Network's Jason La Canfora.

When there are RBs that have produced far less and gotten bigger contracts, it would seem that the Bears have not offered a contract that is near what his market value is. It does bring up a sticky situation with RBs in particular. They're likely the one position who truly needs to have as much up-front money as they can get because their shelf-life is so short and their impact can be so large when they're good and healthy. However, for the same reason why they need to get as much money up front as they can, they're a really crappy bet for ownership. Compare that to a top QB. Obviously the Manning thing sort of blew up, but, in general, a stud QB is a guy you can count on being under center for some time. Which works both ways. The player is under less pressure to get as much up front as they can because they can be confident that they'll be standing upright for the duration of the contract. Meanwhile, for the very same reason, ownership is far more inclined to front-load the contract.
tazinib1
Stanford Routt has agreed to a three-year, $19.6 million contract to play in Kansas City, reports NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. Looks like Bowe will get the FT after all. Rotoworld: Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Stanford Routt on a three-year, $20 million contract. The numbers reported by NFL Network's Jason La Canfora are $19.6 million with a $4 million signing bonus. It's starter money, and makes it more likely that Kansas City will let free agent CB Brandon Carr break the bank on the open market. Expect Dwayne Bowe to get the franchise tag. Routt, who turns 29 before the season, is a press-man corner and fits Romeo Crennel's defensive scheme. While he allowed too many touchdown passes (8) and committed too many penalties (17) last year, Routt posted career highs in interceptions (4) and pass breakups (15). Pro Football Focus graded Routt as the NFL's 19th-best cornerback in terms of coverage. While Carr will command more money, PFF had him 21st. flemingd
then come back week 10 to acrue a season. Unfortunately for Forte, that's no longer an option. Players must report at some point in preseason now to get credit - maybe week three? Forte's' timing is bad, what with many teams trending away from the stud RB concept plus his injury plus the new FT prices. He might have to play for the FT number for a couple of years.
