stethant Posted February 20, 2020 Share Posted February 20, 2020 Wanted to start a thread about franchises that need new ownership to have a realistic chance of competing in the near term (2-3 years): Bears, Bengals, Browns, Chargers, Redskins would be the minimum in need of a reboot. I would take a random Huddler over any of the owners of these teams. Browns and Redskins are probably in the worst situation on this list. Texans as well but they're gonna wait until O'Brien drives that franchise completely into the ground. Objectively we should at least discuss the Cowboys: invested owner, recent good/great drafts but too much meddling where it's not needed and is absent in areas where his leadership could be helpful - the head coaching decisions. It's been a wasteland since Parcells, honestly. Squandering the level of talent they have now is near criminal - they could legit be as good as the Aikman-led teams. Instead: perpetual mediocrity or underperformance. Not sure what retaining Gettleman says about the Giants ownership but it probably isn't very good. Def. Posted February 20, 2020 Share Posted February 20, 2020 Ross and his batch of useless celebrities shareholders haven't done a damn thing for the Dolphins since they took over. Unless there's some improvements soon or Ross dies, I wouldn't be surprised if the team looks to relocate down the line. From Leon Hess to Woody Johnson. Woody and his brother (who is in charge while Woody serves as Ambassador to Great Britain under Trump) have zero football knowledge and have staunchly refused to hire a Director of Football operations. They have both the GM and the HC report to the owner, which has been a dismal failure for decades. They have hired terrible coaches and GMs throughout. First owner Al Lerner is the guy who flew Art Modell to Baltimore to meet with officials there and ultimately sign the deal to move them. He wasn't bad, but really didn't do much and didn't bring a lot of trust with him. Then his son Randy took over, he was more interested about his soccer team in London and hired various groups of rubes to run the team. Then we got Jimmy Haslam, a wannabe Jerry Jones type who supposedly learned a lot while he was a minority owner with the Steelers. That was complete BS because if he had learned from the Steelers he'd know that a new coach and GM every year isn't how you build a winner. He keeps changing the organizational chart around, at times with all top people (HC, GM, etc) reporting directly to him, and I think only one time (with Dorsey) had them all report to somebody who reported to him. Dorsey made some bad calls, but Jimmy's ego also got the best of him as he needed to be completely in charge again, Dorsey wasn't going to stick around and take orders from other people so he left. Now we've brought back somebody who was here when the Browns tanked and went 1-31, along with a new coach along with his coordinators with all 3 being first time at that job. Same for the GM. What could go wrong, well its the Browns so virtually everything. Well at least they had told Greg Robinson he would not be returning before he got busted with over 150 pounds of weed in his car.
