Menudo
Jerome Bettis came back this season for one reason, for the chance to get the Super Bowl ring that has eluded him throughout his sensational career. The Steelers were 15-1 last year, losing another AFC Championship game. Bettis felt this season would be another opportunity for the Steelers. Things were not looking good during the Steelers 3 game losing streak. Losses to the Ravens, Colts, and Bengals had them sitting at 7-5 and appearing to be on the outside looking in to even make the playoffs. Even the most 'homerish' of fans and the players themselves, deep down knew that it was slipping away. After that losing streak, the Steelers headed into the playoffs on a four-game winning streak. They defeated the Bengals in Cincy, and then shocked the football world by becoming the first #6 seed to knock off a #1 seed when they defeated everybody's pick for the Super Bowl Champions, the Indianapolis Colts. In that game, Jerome Bettis inexplicably fumbles, which could be his last offensive play, almost costing his team the game. I truly think that knowing the kind of person and player Bettis appears to be that if the Steelers eventually lose that game, he comes back next year. The Super Bowl is being played in his hometown of Detroit, and what a fitting finish it would be to his Hall of Fame career. The Steelers find themsleves unbelievably now just 2 games away from accomplishing their goal. Obviously, they want it for every member of the team, but their is extra incentive in trying to get a ring for "The Bus". It is sort of like the Broncos rallying around Elway, but not quite as dramatic, as Bettis is a RB, and not quite to the legend status of an Elway. Of course I am a Steeler homer, but, there is not a player that has shown as much class on and off the field as Jerome Bettis. He is the definition of a team player, twice taking huge paycuts to help the team. He is clearly one of the leaders of the team and the guys love him. Will it help them on Sunday, I hope so, because no one deserves to go out on top more than Jerome Bettis. Squeegiebo
So, instead of the tired old "one for the thumb" thing, it's "one for the Bus"? Brilliant! Just think how badly Hines will if they don't win it all.
Sgt. Ryan
The dream is over, the nightmare of another choke season is about to begin, in 5 short days. Of all people Bettis choked the hardest, Opraher couldnt even get 2 yards without coughin up the ball. Question is will Cowher use him on the goal line this week. Edited January 17, 2006 by Sgt. Gdawg
I like Bettis, but I think I could go the rest of my life without seeing his parents in the stands again, now THAT is driving me nuts.
rattsass
2 games away. That's going to be on his tombstone.

They have missed 2 pre-season games, one in Mexico and one in Japan. They deserve some screen time for that dedication.

I don't want to see his parents any more than I wanted to see Kurt Warner's wife every game although she was dedicated to her man and stuck by him when he was a stock boy. The last couple weeks its been like the whole Brady Quinn's sister dating AJ Hawk, just insufferable. On the other hand, I guess it does beat looking at Dan Dierdorf... Egret
I like Bettis. He's had a great career. I don't think he's going to be the reason that the Steelers go to the Superbowl if they can get past Denver. Winning in Denver will be a tall order. Flip_Side
I love Bettis and would love to see him retire winning a superbowl in his hometown. But boy did he sure almost ruin his chances last week with that fumble.
Vet
Bettis has done everything in his power the past to years to send his team home in the playoffs. Last year he coughs it up to the Jets in the final minutes of a tied game. This year he practically hands the game to Indy with less than a minute left. If Doug Brien and Mike Vanderjagt could make a FG in a big spot, Bettis would be the biggest goat in NFL history. If I'm the Steelers, I don't give this guy the opportunity to f-up again - I deactivate him right now and leave him home where he can't do any more damage. The strange thing is you could tell Cowher wanted to go with the veteran, and basically went completely away from Parker. I'm sure the young guy can do as good a job putting the ball on the ground as Bettis.
Squeegiebo
The Bus had some fumble issues a while back, no doubt. Did any of you actually see the fumble on Sunday? It's not like he pulled a Tiki Barber and just dropped the thing. Dude put the helment on the ball.
Gdawg
True, but he was carrying the ball like a loaf of bread...
Whiskey Pimp
Never been a fan of the Bus and never will be. I jumped out of my seat when he fumbled and coincidentally about 5 minutes before that I said "I hope fat ass coughs up the ball at some point and loses the game". I'm not 100% sure why I dislike him so much but it might have to do with that stupid side stepping "dance" crap he always did after gaining anything more than 3 yards. Thanks for telling me their story and how they've supported him since I don't recall hearing it before. Or maybe I have for the past few weeks and everytime it's word for word. You're entitled to hate the Bus. And I'm entitled to think you're a moran because of it. Dude is one tough mo-fo who has taken pay cuts to stay with his team, not complaining about his reduced role, but stepping it up big-time when the starting job fell back onto him. Never has a bad attitude. Does his thing to get his teammates and the fans fired up. He is unstoppable in goal line situations. Unless he fumbles. HandsToTheFace
I'm not a Steelers fan but I can't help but to cheer for this guy. He plays with heart and a fire that alot of players lack. I hope he makes it to the big game for atleast the chance to win it. But if they're playing Seattle I'll have to cheer against him.

And he sure looked unstoppable at the goal line in his last carry on his back with the ball on the ground, and N Harper picking it up running the other way. If anyone is a moran, its you. Just be around Sunday night when Menudo posts his eulogy of the Steelers season.
