fingfootball
Another thread got me to thinking about how many Huddle Vetrans are out there and what interesting places/things have you been to or seen. While my own service wasnt as significant as others I'm still proud to have served. I was a DK3 in the USN 90-94 and I served in the Westpac and the 7th Fleet. I was in 7 typhoons, an 8.3 earthquake and was breifly in the PI during Mt. Pinatubo's eruption.

Atlanta Cracker
I was in Air Force ROTC in college but ended up deciding that wasn't the proper path for me thanks to some urging from the major.... Thanks to all those who did serve to help keep our freedoms in tact!

Kid Cid
I spent 6 years in the CT Army National Guard as a commo specialist and bridge builder. Combat Engineers, we were attached to the 1st Armored Cav over in Germany. The most I ever did was to go over to Reforger one year and cross trainging with the 82nd Ariborne. We taught them to build our bridge and they taught us how to climb and rapel.
rocknrobn26
I worked for the Dept. of the Navy for 2.5 years, making ordnance during Vietnam, but that doesn't count. Thanks to all who served.

SuperBalla
Like Kid Cid, sort of...he was Commo, but bridge building is similar, I was a 52 Bravo Combat Engineer, Vertical Platoon in the LA National Guard. I have been to Panama, Belize, Hondurus, and the Bahamas. My very first drill date I welcomed my unit back from Desert Storm 1. BeeR
Spent 22 years in the AF, Medical Corp I can keep you alive until the ambulance shows up. Make up your mind. Used to be active duty, then ANG, now AFRES. Served everywhere from AK to AZ to Fla to Germany (some of those TDYs). Never in combat situation (knock on wood) though - and while I salute all those who served, those who are or have put their lives on the line - and esp those who were hurt or killed - get the biggest and most heartfelt salute from me. "Thanks" hardly begins to sum it up. Also a respectful nod to the family members who often make sacrifices that go unnoticed/underappreciated far too often. Finally, when the Nat'l Anthem is playing someplace (ballgame, whatever), or even taps, or whatever, to those who are classy and respectful enough to put show proper respect for it (hand over their heart, or sing, or both, etc), would like to shake your hand, but failing that, my salute back to you. Nice to know at least some people have the IQ to appreciate and "get" that freedoms aren't free. /soapbox Edited May 26, 2008 by BeeR

Good salute here...often these people aren't thought about but they go through hell too.
whoopazz
Thanks so much to all the vets and actives here at the Huddle. No service for me, but my Dad was on the ground in France during WWII. He didn't like to talk about it all that much, but I'm thinking about him today.
