cliaz
I'm sorry but each and every year I have the last Sat. in August marked on the Calendar for draft day. I look forward to that day more than X-mas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Easter, New Years eve and my Birthday. I understand people who do not have the time for a live draft but man, to me it's the biggest par-tah of the year. Our local leagues is August 26th and starts at 11am. The way it works on my street (75% of our 12 man league live on my street, it's awesome.) is we draft all day, eat, drink, sh1t talk, have a great time. Then we clean up after all the drafting, couple hands of poker, rounds of darts, games of shuffle board and then we bring the wives and kids over for the evening BBQ. I love it. I used to be on three leagues that drafted locally (some may remember my posts about drafting in the pool with the plastic covered drafting sheets and grease pins.) but now that I have kids I have to limit my time. All of us on my street league do but we have three big football parties a year, Draft Day, Mid Nov. BBQ football party and Super Bowl Party. I just couldn't belong to a local league that didn't have a live draft, it's almost a holy holiday for me

The Happy Note
Couldn't agree more. Draft day is what FF is all about. Live drafting is what makes it great. I don't understand this trend either. I also don't understand formats like the FFTOC or whatever where there is no draft? That's like saying, hey, let's take all of the fun out of FF. mbaker123
I absolutely agree. I have a league that I've been running for 5+ years and it always amazes me the trouble that I have getting everyone together. I clear out that last weekend of August specifically for the draft. If I didn't enjoy the live draft process so much I wouldn't even bother.
twiley
Live drafts rule, I have 2 this year. I know I've mentioned this before but I'm in one league where we choose a different city each year and usually 12 of the 14 make it. Past locations included New Orleans, Chicago, Denver, San Diego, and Memphis. We golf, drink, catch a ball game, eat, and draft. Good times. This year, Dallas...2 weeks from today. Avernus
august and around labor day always happen to be around someone's vacation and somebody always can't make it..... hopefully this year I can get 12 members again....it's a tough time for fantasy drafts... loaf
only one with us but that's because he's moved to NH. And DD is the best day of the year.
SeductiveNun
I'm in 4 leagues, each with a live draft, and I wouldn't give that up for anything. In my main, the 12 teams are scattered across the state, and one owner lives in NC, so getting together with those guys on draft day is the only time I get to see them all, although the NC owner usually has to join us by phone. Too bad because he and I always use to have some terrific verbal sparring at the draft. Besides, it easier to throw out those verbal barbs in person when someone makes a boneheaded pick. It's just not the same to do so in a chat room or whatever. It's all aboot camraderie, eh?
cliaz
Good to see I wasn't in the minority about this. I've cut down on the live drafts though. Once a year is very pimp, have two is okay, but 3+ starts to water down the fun. It's kind of like.....well....when you first met your wives and started having sex it was great. Then a year passes, it's okay, then a decade passes and (as Eddie Murphy puts it.) it's the same old cracker. That is another reason I choose only 1 live draft. cliaz
no midgets? Nope. I got pulled over by a Maryland state trooper and I had two midget hookers in the car and one of those mini-ponies. He asked me to open up my trunk and found the black bag with the car batteries and nipple clamps so he took me in. Booked me under charges of kidnapping short people, bestiality and carrying a rape it. So now I have to stay away from midgets, animals, duct tape and batteries and public toilets for 120 days. More than 2 gets to be a drain. Plus, its more fun when you are close with all the guys in the league.
Synnr
I have one live draft. It is comprised of friends all over the DFW metroplex and one guy in Houston. It is very rare that someone does not attend. The guy from Houston never misses. There were 2 years when someone didn't make it to the draft and they were dogged all year. Ever since then, no problem with attendance unless of course emergencies (back surgery won out once). We have the best time and wouldn't give it up. Bengal Mania
I wish someone had told the mailman during late November several years ago about the importance of late August. A late August birthday for child #2 impacts my FFL draft ability every few years, when it falls on the last weekend. My long time league has always had the draft out of town (for me), which really causes a minimum of 24 hours to it w/ travel, drunkedness, and crashing. This year is going to be the third time I miss that draft in person (times 1 and 2 being the birth and 1st birthday of said child). My second league is local, so I should always be able to work around that. Agree w/ the sentiment about priority, but life gets in the way.... Chargerz
Since I'm the commish of our local I host the draft each year. It IS alot of fun. The twelve guys in our league have known each other quite a while and are at ease with each other. Alot of laughing and joking around, not to mention good food and drink. Wouldn't miss it!!!!! Marauders11
I still do 3 live drafts per year and I agree they are just about the best part of the fantasy season. on a side note if anyone has an extra draft board beacuse thier live draft has been changed up I could use one for my local which I haven't ordered . PM me if any are available to a fellow Huddler....
BeeR
I have a league that I've been running for 5+ years and it always amazes me the trouble that I have getting everyone together. Sounds like you (like many of us I bet) have the growing problem of casual/half-rearend FFers. Far as I can tell they screw up or otherwise "dilute" a ton of leagues. Not saying people have to "go off the deep end" and spend umpteen hrs/day on this or whatever, but if you're only just barely interested in it, why even bother? Anyway yeah live is the only way to go, doubly so for auctions obviously. We have a fun group overall in my league although it's not "local" anymore so hoping to find a group nearby.....(any Richmond FFers have a league?) BeeR
The problem is women. Anyone who ever misses their draft misses it for their woman. Women and fantasy sports dont mix well, Wow someone else gets it. which is why i only date prostitutes and crack whores. OK that's pushing it just a bit.
