Randall
This should get the fans fired up even more. New York Daily News - http://www.nydailynews.com Not allowed to bring the noise BY RALPH VACCHIANO DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Thursday, September 21st, 2006 The Giants first noticed the noise in Seattle last year while they were doing their pregame stretching, and their headaches only got worse as the game went along. The crowd at Qwest Field was much louder than they were expecting. In fact, maybe it was even a little too loud to be real. That's what several Giants suspected after they were rattled into 11 false starts in their 24-21 overtime loss to the Seahawks last Nov. 27. And that's why many of them weren't surprised yesterday to hear that the NFL will be monitoring Sunday's rematch to make sure the Seahawks are not artificially enhancing the stadium noise. Rumors of such shenanigans have been swirling since the building opened four years ago, although no one has found any proof. "I don't know," said Giants linebacker Carlos Emmons. "Everybody's heard the rumors, and those speakers seemed to be aimed right at our sidelines." "There's always a lot of rumors going on, and you've heard that one before," added guard David Diehl. "The only thing that I would say that could possibly back that up is that was the loudest I've ever heard any stadium in pregame. But you never know if any of that stuff is true." The Seahawks, of course, insist it's not. "We don't do that," Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said yesterday. He claimed the noise comes from the fans, who "really believe they make a difference." Clearly they do, since the Seahawks went 10-0 at home last year and are 24-4 there since 2003. Someone, however, suspects Seattle's "12th man" has help because the NFL notified both teams this week that it will be watching and listening closely. NFL rules state any noise "that is under club control must cease when the play clock is running and the visiting team is in possession of the ball." The league fined the Washington Redskins $20,000 for violating that rule in 2000. It's not clear if the Giants (1-1) are the ones who complained to the league, but Holmgren reportedly told a Seattle radio station he guessed they probably were. Later, on a conference call with the New York media, Holmgren said "I think I was making a joke." But he added, "There were people that are speculating that considering the number of penalties they had here last year." Whether the Giants, who were flagged 16 times in that game, complained or not, the noise obviously got to them that day. In many ways, it's still ringing in their ears as they prepare to face the Seahawks (2-0) this week. They admittedly weren't prepared for the volume in Seattle last season. At least this year it won't catch them by surprise. "For a lot of us, that was the first time we played in Seattle and you really don't know what to expect until you experience it," Diehl said. "Now we know what's coming at us. We know how loud it's going to be and we know that we have to focus." "We made a mountain out of a molehill last year, including myself," said left tackle Luke Petitgout, who committed five of the Giants' 11 false starts in that game. "We just won't do the same this year." False starts remain a problem for the Giants. They committed 38 in 2005, and have already been flagged for eight this season, including five in their home opener. They committed three on Sunday in Philadelphia, where it wasn't nearly as loud as it will be in Seattle. "It was very loud," said receiver David Tyree. "Very, very, very loud. And if you add a few more verys I think you'd probably get the picture. Qwest Field is unique."
Seahawk37
haaha this is funny. The Giants or whoever complained signed a death warrant because its gonna be twice as loud as it was last year. I cant wait for Sunday....

Down Goes Frazia
Qwest Field is unique." key words here. Qwest was built to funnel / retain the sound. If you look @ the canopy's over each sidelines they almost completely cover the seats. the south end is closed all the way to the upper level & the north end has the hawks' nest. there's some crazy SOB's that sit there. It's designed perfectly & when you pack it with 67,000 strong.... you see the results. I've had seats there since it opened in 2002..... I've gone to quite a few viking games over the years in the baggy & a few @ Lambeau, but there's is no stadium like Qwest - open air or enclosed. I sit way up above the South endzone, and even up there there are times where the noise actually hurts your ears. Basically, my entire section bellows from the rafters from the huddle to spot on each defensive down. It is truly insane, and a blast to be a part of. Bonehand
Amplify the sound, that'll make your ears hurt. True, but so would having 67,000 people screaming directly into your ears.
Dirty Sanchez
Crowd noise won't be an issue after the Giants are up 14-0 in the first quarter.
fitzkek
True, but so would having 67,000 people screaming directly into your ears. Yeah, no one else has fans that yell for their team. Especially when they are on defense.

Seahawk37
Crowd noise won't be an issue after the Giants are up 14-0 in the first quarter. you realize the Seahawks have only given up 8 points a game, 51 yards on the ground, and average 4 sacks a game. Its gonna take a miracle performance from ELi to beat the Hawks defense. All we have to do is get some false starts and a few hits on manning early in the game and we have a shaky and frustrated Eli thats gonna make some mistakes. The Giants defense hasnt showed up this season yet and the Hawks should put up some points. Hawks win 24-

That must be the guy that has feathers glued all over him and cardboard wing type thingies....I think I was about 20' away from that crazy fella at the NFC Conference game. heehawks
Ok, I just have to say that there is no way in beilzabob's lair that they are pumping extra crowd noise into the stadium. I have been going to heehawk games for nearly 20 years and back in the Kingdome it was MUCH more loud than it ever has been at Qwest (slight exception with the NFC championship game). Bottom line, it was BUILT to be loud and made for the fans. Heh, good luck trying to get the crowd to not scream at the Giants this weekend....its gonna be ridiculous in there. heehawks
I heard he was playing too. Branch is gonna play. Burleson gets the start. Go to www.seattletimes.com and look in the sports section. It lays it all out there. Holmgren said they are all gonna play this weekend in the sets they are written into. TheGrunt
Branch is gonna play. Burleson gets the start. Go to www.seattletimes.com and look in the sports section. It lays it all out there. Holmgren said they are all gonna play this weekend in the sets they are written into. To be more specific: Burleson will start Holmgren said Nate Burleson will start at split end this week, though the Seahawks will activate Deion Branch. Branch will play. How much remains to be seen, but Branch has been studying his playbook thoroughly. Holmgren must figure out how to use his bevy of weapons at receiver. "They all want touches. It's important to them," Holmgren said. "I'm certainly not going to tell them, 'OK, you're going to play this amount, you're going to play this amount.' "We're going to substitute guys, we're going to use different groupings. And if you're in there, you're in there. And that's pretty much the way we're going to do it."
