MrTed46
I just recently got introduced to Craps in a Casino. I usually played Texas Holdem (which is still the best) and a few carnival games like 3 card. When I was in Kansas City I was at the casino and tried Craps. I am hooked and love it. I think the adrenaline is the highest and is a good rush for the money...I can play that for hours (if money permits) and have tons of fun. What type of bets do you guys do on Craps? I can take some pointers if some of you play all the time.

I can take some pointers if some of you play all the time. I got introduced to it a few years ago in Atlantic City and loved playing it ever since. I'm not a maven when it come to all the different bets available on the table, so I just do the usual 6-8 and an occasional 5 or 10 (depending on the point). I also throw in a few hard bets or a Yo here and there. Nothing too fancy. From what I've read on the boards, I think Spain is very well versed in this game. MrTed46
I am going down to AC this weekend with my girl, so I have been reading. I think I am going to bet PASS and COME bets only...odds are about even with the casino

Once someone has established their point, that's where you can make money by betting on the point. Once you've got money up there, press the bet whenever you can. In other words, don't take the cash if they hit, just double up on the bet. At least that's the wya I do it. Others more knowledgeable my be able to teach us something. Squeegiebo
Played for the first time when I was in Vegas recently. Really enjoyed it. Stuck pretty much with the come and pass bets.
sundaynfl
Always find the craps table with the highest odds on the line once the point is established put down the max odds bet. Edited to add: Always ask the dealers for help in putting out the correct money on the numbers. If you are short and your point hits you will not get paid on the risk you are taking. The dealers are usually very helpfull to someone who is learning or to drunk to add! Edited November 9, 2006 by sundaynfl
AtomicCEO
Get a feel for the table. If it's hot, by all means, bet the numbers after the come-out roll. If it's cold, don't be afraid to bet the Don't Pass line. It will make you a villain at the table, but sometimes a table needs a bad guy. rocknrobn26
Come, pass, odds (usually double, more on a hot table), and place bets are the only ones worth betting. 6 & 8 place, when the point is neither. 5 & 9, only when the shooter is really spitin' out a lot of numbers. I never bet the 4/10. House advantage is too high (~6%). Pressing when a lot of #'s are coming out. Stay away from the big 6 & 8. A total sucker bet, as are most proposition bets. If I'm doing well though, I make a prop for "the boys". And toss my dealer a few $$ every once in awhile, so he'll help monitor my bets. (Very well spent $$) On a $5 table, I suggest a $300 bank roll. Proportion that up for $10, etc.. I'm NOT a 'Don't' bettor, so I have to be on a hot table. Nothing wrong w/ betting 'Don't', and it's probably a good strategy to go w/ the flow of the table, but I just can't get myself to give odds to the house! If you find one, a crap tourney is a gas! I took 6th place (out of ~75 people) once. Totally different strategy, but a lot of fun. There are alot of good books, I like Silberstien an old...old timer prolly dead, on hedging strategies, that is covering one bet w/ another. The problem is, unless your betting big chips, the payback is too slow and small. My theory is, hit the table hot, play as long as possible, and leave before the bones go cold. Easy to say, tough to do. NEVER be the first player on an empty table.....bad karma. Good luck.

rocknrobn26
Looked it over and couldn't understand a bit of what was happening. Actually, it's easier than Blackjack! But you can't play as long, because the table can go cold real fast.
Pope Flick
Get a book, and learn what bets to avoid: don't be seduced by the field as it's one of the ways the house makes their money. Pass, Come bets are easy enough. MAYBE line bet the 6 and 8 if those aren't the points. If you're up and having fun, MAYBE cover the hard ways, but those are sucker bets too. Never been to AC, which is where the Big6 and 8 are - they don't exist in Vegas to my knowledge.

TDFFFreak
Pass line, then 2 or 3 come bets depending on how well I am doing. I stay away from center bets (unless I'm making a bet for the dealers). Best game in the casino and pretty much the only game I play anymore when in a casino. HowboutthemCowboys
I'm no expert, not even close.... On a 10 dollar table I'll bet the minimum on the pass line and back it up with 20. Usually bet the 6 and 8 all the time and if the table's hot I'll play the rest of the #'s too.Whatever you feel lucky with.... As far as pressing goes, I just go "up a unit" when a # that I'm on is rolled. If it's a $10 table you have $10 on any # except the 6 or 8 where you have to pay $12. "up a unit" means if you have $10 on the #, the dealer ups your bet by $5 and you get the rest....$12 on the 6 or 8 gets you $6(one unit) more on your #, you get the rest. If any of my #'s hit again I play the "same bet" which means I take the payout. Best advice I ever got was from a guy that was about 80 years old and looked like someone from The Godfather and he told me "stay out of the middle kid", which means stay away from the hardways and the other bets in the middle of the table. When I occasionally play a hardway bet I play "two way". This means I'll throw $6 out for a hard 8, $5 for me and $1 for the dealers. If it hits they keep the payout for the dollar. You'd be surprised how much this appreciated by the dealers and they WILL take great care of you. Good Luck! Wish I was going to A.C. this weekend...... MrTed46
Went to AC and played Craps again...I love this game. I have a question for you guys, lets say the minimum is $10. So you put $10 on the pass line and a # gets established...what do u usually play odds on? do you go max odds?

Once the point is established I typically back up the pass line bet and then toss out some cash for the 6 & 8. If he throws either 6 or 8 I'll press it once and then just start taking the cash if the roller keeps hitting the 6 or 8. There are a couple of other bets I throw out as well such as a couple of hard bets.

I usually only go 2x, but if the table is hot I'll go 4x, assuming it's allowed. Don't forget the odds on your Come bets

I'll try to always max the odds, but it can get expensive, so if you really want to play with multiple numbers (waiting for one can get a little dull) try to put at least 2x odds and then establish 1 or 2 more come bets. MrTed46
I was doing it all wrong and putting 1:1 on my bet and odds. Next time I go, I am going to go with a bigger bank roll and place max odds and see how it goes.
detlef
I tend to play it straight like others here but don't think it's fun if I don't throw out a yo or hard way every now and then just to keep it exciting.

Next time I go, I am going to go with a bigger bank roll and place max odds and see how it goes. On a $5 yable I ned to have at least $300 for a bankroll, as I'll have a minimum of 1 line bet, 2 comes and 2 place bets (~$60) if the numbers are coming out. I tend to play it straight like others here but don't think it's fun if I don't throw out a yo or hard way every now and then just to keep it exciting. When I play the HW's, I'll bet a $1 and use that to tip the 'Boys'.

detlef
Does anyone else put a small hard way on the number? Just makes it that much tastier if they make the number hitting the hard way and isn't any huge loss if they make it regular since you're getting paid anyway. In the long run, you'll probably take a small hit in the wallet doing it this way. I get the fun factor of gambling, matter of fact if you are gambling against the house you should expect to lose a small amount in the long run; however, I like my gambling to carry the highest chance of winning so no middle bets for me in craps unless I want the dealers to have some fun. It's plenty sweet when you are hitting numbers with odds on them. I don't need the extra incentive.
