Cunning Runt
The wifey-poo and I are going to be visiting San Antonio Aug 2-7. No real reason - just wanted to visit the city. We're staying at the Hotel Contessa right on the Riverwalk. Any suggestions of things we might want to do? Here's what we're thinking right now: Alamo - which I hear doesn't take long Outlet mall Sea World/Six Flags (probably one or the other - not both) Lots of drinking and hanging out on the Riverwalk Basic tourist stuff. We do have a car so a couple hour drive is within reason.

Perchoutofwater
Take a day & go see Enchanted Rock. One of my favorite places in Texas. We used to have a deer lease about a mile or two from there on HWY 16.
REZ
I spent six months there but I was on my own and in the military. I can tell you some bars that are good. The Alamo won't take long at all. Man, it was surprising to me how small that place is

Capt Skinman
Depends on what you like and are into.... The music scene is cool. Small venues are all over. I likeSam's Burger Joint for the food and they have a regular group of local and touring ska/punk/rockabilly bands playing all the time. The Koffin Kats are playing there on the 3rd The White Rabbit has some of the harder rockers. Most urban cowboy rednecks dig Cowboys Dance Bar. Its huge and fill of hicks and wannabee hicks. Just so happens that Verizon Amphitheater in Selma on the north side of SA is holding The Projekt Revolution show on 3 August as well. I have pit tickets. I'll be that wierd headbangin old guy. If its nice weather, The Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels is the best waterpark period. It is about an hour's drive north on I-35 and signs all the way. You can't miss it. Lastly, there's Natural Bridge Caverns which is kinda cool especially if its hot and its not but a few minutes from SA as well. Hope you dig it whatever you decide to do. The Alamo is simply a photo op Outlet malls are everywhere in the US Sea World/Six Flags are overrated IMO Drinking and hitting the bars/restaurants on the Riverwalk is a must though
Riffraff
Like others have said: Alamo - dodge the beggars. Riverwalk Used to be a Ripley's Believe it or Not museum there. Might not exist anymore. Used to be a theme restaurant called "D!cks" that you get treated really bad, but it's funny. If you have a spouse with a big sense of humor. (Could be the wrong town in Texas though) Some good BBQ or Burger joints there, can't recall any names though. Ripley's is still there but pretty much a rippoff Dick's is pretty cool For BBQ DO NOT go to any Bill Miller's!!! My favorite BBQ is in a little old town family owned placed called Harmon's. I was addicted when I first got here and it took awhile to ween myself. A 1/2 lb of brisket and sausage soaked with their sauce is like 2 ft from heaven. Rudy's is another that is right off I-35 North that a lot of people like. I still recommend to take the extra few minutes to drive to Hamron's which is just a few minutes from Rudy's. Bill Swerski
Go check out the historic Spanish Missions around town. They're quite cool. Ripley's is still there but pretty much a rippoff I can't believe they put that massive eyesore right across the street from the Alamo. Drive an hour and a half north and come to the best city in Texas. Can't argue with that. Austin kicks ass. Hugh B Tool
Dicks "The rowdy on the river" is a fun and good place to eat and drink, though some dude named Hugh got in trounle for jumping in to cool off between cocktails when I was there Edited July 30, 2007 by Hugh B Tool
