Tipping the dealer?

FWIW....

The best toke you can give is at a craps table. The dealer will watch your bets, remind you of bets missed, and even give advice as to what's been happening at the table during your stay there, just sorta like a good secretary!

Nothing is more annoying to me int the world of craps and tipping when the dealers not so gently push you into tipping them. "Hey you've won a few. (forget the fact that it was real bad before this good roll) How about a little love for the dealers? etc., etc. etc." It's just bad form and I'll tip when I'm ready and winning without your nudges. And I do tip without being told...

I've been playing craps for 20+ years and I never had a dealer do that to me. If you did, then I would be put out also and walk before tipping them.

I have found that most craps dealers are very good and NEVER solicited a tip. I'm sorry that you had what I would call a rare experience and I understand your anger.

So ... any time a place of business decides to pay low wages to their employees I should feel obligated to tip? Where is the line? Should I tip the person in Wal-Mart that rings up my groceries? The guy at the local gas station working behind the counter? Both of these people are providing more personal service than a dealer.

You got some bad karma surrounding you. The poker Gods will not be pleased. I ALWAYS tip when I win a hand in poker. ALWAYS. I see some assholio's that never tip because they dont think the dealer provided them a service. Those people are typically miserable nits and I generally dont like them. Its wrong not to tip. And as a superstitious gambler, I think its the worst kind of juju.

I tip at poker, and also at craps, blackjack, bacarret, and whatever other game I play. In games other than poker, I will make a bet for the dealer e.g. "2 way hard 6 and 8" etc. The only way I would stiff a dealer is if they were somehow detracting from the game or my enjoyment of it. If you dont want to tip, go deal your own game at home.

I've been in a Casino once. I tipped the dealer every single hand I won ... tipping more for the bigger hands. That doesn't prevent me from questioning why?

they both probably make more then most dealers(tips not included) :D

the WalMart cashier takes your money

the gas guy takes your money

the dealer turns cards so you can win money...no dealer no cards get turned no money to be won....or lost :D

I had a dealer at MGM do that to me at the blackjack table.

My last trip to the Hard Rock (I know, bad place for the serious player) they we're pretty darn ruthless, in a kinda subtle way, about tipping. They are looking for people who don't know how to play the game and figure they can influence the inexperienced craps player to throw them some money for their guidance. What I was really surprised was when it happened at (if I remember correctly) the Mirage or MGM. I like playng at the Mirage, but that one craps table was a turn off. I'll still keep on going as I've had too many good sessions there. And I did tip. :D

PokerStars/AbsolutePoker/PacificPoker have never asked me to tip. And the fat lady at the Casey's never asked for a tip when she sold me a lottery ticket. :D No one held a gun to anyone's head to become a teacher dealer. They knew what they were getting into as far as pay and they did it anyway. I figure they must love what they do and there is nothing I could possibly do that would compare to that pure love of serving others. In fact, my feeble efforts would only cheapen their experience. :D

Out with a GF in Blackhawk and she doesn’t feel comfortable playing Black Jack, so we wind up at a $5 min bet three card poker table. She hits early on three of a kind and makes a $15 bet for the dealer on the next hand (he won). She then went on an average run winning and losing about the same, but she kept tipping the dealer. When I asked her about it later, she said it was good karma. She won $180 that night and I was down about $20. I’ll tip a dealer if they add some fun to the table, because I’m there for fun and not to make money. I want to, but I don’t expect to. Breaking even gambling all night is fun, and dealers with personality make it more fun. I’ll tip an entertaining dealer, but won’t tip a stone-faced zero that much even if I’m doing well.

why'd you tip them then? are you just an unthinking sheep who follows the herd and can't think for himself? :D

Having once worked for tips I generally tip those that work for tips.

I also wondered if the tips were going into a tip pool so that in reality your tip to your dealer is getting watered down?

Different casinoes work differently. Heck, even different areas in a casino may work differently. Some poker rooms pool tips for the shifts, others each dealer keeps their individual tips.
