I'm happy to start AP as a backup for now until LJ gets out of his funk.
jo jo the dog faced boy
I believed all the talk about a 50/50 split, so Peterson sits on the bench behind R Brown and T Henry. I deserve the beating I will most likely take.

sp3ctr3
Childress is an idiot. Other than the line collapsing around C. Taylor, he didn't look bad. AD is a stud though. It seems like the Vikes are in prime position to run the Cowboys RBBC. C. Taylor = JJ and AD = MBIII of course.
wildcat2334
Childress is an idiot. yup. If I wash a Minny homer I would be going ballistic that AP is not on the field more. The last 2 drives he was watching from the sidelines on too many occasions.

You give hime the ball any more times, he is going to be dead by week 8. I am not complaining about his workload.

I drafted AP and am obviously happy with the production, but I was getting concerned that he'd hit the wall if he kept having to carry the offense. I'm sure if he keeps out playing Taylor they'll shift to a situation where he's getting like 70/30 rather than 50/50. That would be perfect because it will allow him to stay fresh. I am guessing that he won't get nearly the passing yardage he was getting because I heard one of the things they were looking forward to having Taylor back was passing downs. Apparently he's a better blocker in that scheme. I wasn't watching the game but was following it on-line and it seemed like the passing game did move better when Taylor was in the game. Of course, I could certainly be wrong.
bizkit34
i am a vikings fan and have peterson on my team. he had over 100 yds @ half......the idiot of a coach only gave him 2 carries the second half. i guess he never heard of draw plays or screen or if you have a stud get him the rock! MikesVikes
Here's a thought for the Brain trust. If you don't want to run Adrian into the ground, then why is he returning kicks? Peterson is a major talent, he deserves to have a head coach someday.
Delicious_bass
Other than the line collapsing around C. Taylor, he didn't look bad. AD is a stud though. Nail, meet hammer yup. If I wash a Minny homer I would be going ballistic that AP is not on the field more. The last 2 drives he was watching from the sidelines on too many occasions. As a Minny homer, I am going ballastic more because the highly-touted offensive line looks below average at best. I have said for a while now that this unit is very overrated. McKinniebeanyslower is probably the most overrated and Cook is a liability. This line couldnt give Johnson any time last year, they didnt give it to TJ, and now today they couldnt even keep from being overrun by a straight 4 man pass rush. Pitiful. It will not make any difference which QB is taking the snaps until the line plays considerably better. Peterson is showing special talent and he is explosive enough to make plays despite poor blocking. Taylor needs the blocking more the AP and it shows. So far through 4 games, he has touched the ball 45% of the plays (I did not count incomplete passes). You give hime the ball any more times, he is going to be dead by week 8. I am not complaining about his workload. Yep. Tough dilema there. You have only one player that does anything on O, so you want to feed him. But if he doesnt get any help, he's going to be shot by mid-season.

Outshined
AP isn't good at pass blocking yet. He was out much of the 4th quarter for this reason. Yeah - i just don't think we had the time to run the ball. The Packers opened the 3rd qtr with a nine minute drive. AP had one carry and Taylor had 2 for 39 yards. In the 4th qtr he touched the ball a couple times, but they were in pass mode.

I was at the game and although GB did start off the second half with that long drive, AD was on the bench for most of the second half. We were seated right behind the Vikign bench and there were at least two times where right after the offense came off the field Peterson and Beville (OC) got in to it. Both were 3rd and short situations where the Vikings passed instead of ran the ball. Peterson was creating yards everytime he touched the ball. The argument of running him in the ground is garbage, they had him returning kickoff's (talk about an injury waiting to happen!) The other thing thing that was quite clear to those of us at the game, everytime that AD was on the field the crowd was in the game, when he was off the field the crowd was sitting on their hands. Childress took the crowd out of the game in the second half by keeping AD on the bench!!

Peterson ran a couple of routes and on 2 occasions he was in single coverage with a LB and Holcomb forced the ball elsewhere. Thanks for the insight.
kingfish247
I'm all for saving Peterson for the long haul but if that is what Childress is trying to do, he is still responsible for two things: 1) winning games, and 2) ACTUALLY saving Peterson for the long haul by not allowing him to return kicks. Childress is an idiot. If I were a Vikes fan, I would be absolutely infuriated with Childress for allowing Peterson to return kicks. On any given Sunday, don't the Vikings have like 4 WRs that don't do much for 60 minutes except run routes? Put one of them back there to return kicks and save the only play maker for when it counts. kingfish247
...Well that and I had read prior to the game that Taylor was a better pass blocker.... This is probably the biggest cliche outside of a team stating they want to use more 2 TE sets in the offseason. It doesn't matter if Taylor or Moore are the better pass blockers if they remove their biggest playmaker from the game. An analogy would be like keeping Randy Moss of the field in favor of an extra OT because you want to make sure Brady gets enough time. I can understand the pass blocking argument if you have a few middling RBs (Norwood/Dunn, GBs RBs, Carolina's RBs etc.) but not when you have a playmaker of AD's caliber.
