What song did you think was an original but turned out to be a re-make?

I never knew Hey Joe by Hendrix was a remake. Not sure who did the original though

Here

While claimed by some to be a traditional song,[8] or often erroneously attributed to the pen of American musician Dino Valenti (who also went by the names Chester or Chet Powers, and Jesse Farrow), "Hey Joe" was registered for copyright in the U.S. in 1962 by Billy Roberts.[3] Scottish folk singer Len Partridge has claimed that he helped write the song with Roberts when they both performed in clubs in Edinburgh in 1956.[9] Other sources (including singer Pat Craig), claim[3][10] that Roberts assigned the rights to the song to his friend Valenti while Valenti was in jail, in order to give him some income upon release.

And I didn't know either, though I would claim the cover by Spirit on Spirit of '76 is superior to Hendrix's.

I Want Candy by Bow Wow Wow. Didn't know until years later that it was originally done in the 60s by the Strangeloves

This. I had no idea. Hey,the Bow Wow Wow singer was pretty cute for a chubby chick? If remember right.

And Furd.........you mentioned Louie Louie, by the Kingsmen. Thats not the original?

Richard Berry wrote it and he first performed it with The Pharaohs.

The Kingsmen did their version about 6 years later.

My understanding is that the Eagles use to be Linda Ronstandt's backup band? ... it would make sense they would cover it.

They wrote it. She covered it, as well as a lot of other people. Johnny Cash's late version is also extraordinary.

Love is like a Roller Coaster by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I knew nothing about the Ohio Players until someone pointed it out to me. Feelin' Alright by Joe Cocker. I even had the Dave Mason/Traffic version on an old tape my cousin had given to me.

Van Halen's Pretty Woman - I'd never heard of Roy Orbison

Did you become a fan when you did? If so check out his CD Black and White nights. It's recorded live and he has a bunch of other prominent musicians as his band and backup vocals. Springsteen, Jackson Brown, Bonnie Raitt, J.D. Souther, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello , T-Bone Burnette to name a few.

Awesome CD.

Mis-spoke here. It's a DVD that I have. A must see if you like Orbison.

Just found out yesterday "Big Ten Inch" was a cover of Bull Moose Jackson song in the 50's. I wonder why they called him Bull Moose and how he came up with the premise of the song?
