Brentastic
who the when I wore my first dress are these groups?? Surely you've heard of Modest Mouse. I highly suggest you listen to the first two albums on my list ASAP. Give each album 2 solid listens (preferably 3 listens) and prepare to have your mind blown. SheikYerbuti
who the when I wore my first dress are these groups?? Ironically, Modest Mouse is a group, and Iron & Wine is a solo artist.

gilthorp
Anything by Radiohead, and Pearl Jam's last two. Violence, Sex, Language, Other by Stereophonics. Anything by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Warpaint by Black Crowes. Too hard to make definitive lists but I like these a lot. ETA: Jayhawks, Rainy Day Music and Rush of Blood to the Head by Coldplay (met these guys in Atlanta right after this came out). Another one that's on the list, Rainy Day Music. That one has grown on me over the last 2 years. It's fantastic.
SheikYerbuti
Hmm, you seem to have an issue with the difference between seventeen and ten. Quickly looked over the thread. . .there isn't a single list of 10 albums posted. Not even Bren, who numbered his list 1-10. Not sure which 7 I'd remove. . unfortunately the 4 Radioheads would all stay. . .they really tower over the decade.
bpwallace49
I literally have not heard of half of these bands . . their albums . . or could name one of their songs. :oldman:

Seahawks21
Yeah, gotta second the Ryan Adams. Easy TIger is probably the best album I have heard in the past decade. gilthorp
So I gave it a lot of thought, and these are albums that I own, so some of the excellent suggestions on here are ones that I have never heard top to bottom. I was close to putting Radiohead on here, as well as a few others, but just for pure listening enjoyment for me, here's my 10. 10. Sunrise Over Sea: 2004 - John Butler Trio 9. Broken Boy Soldiers: 2006 - The Ranconteurs 8. Room On Fire : 2003 - The Strokes 7. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not: 2006 - Arctic Monkeys 6. Thirteen Tales From Bohemia: 2000 - The Dandy Warhols 5. Rainy Day Music: 2003 - The Jayhawks 4. Music At Work: 2000 - The Tragically Hip 3. Howl: 2005 - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 2. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot: 2002 - Wilco 1. By The Way: 2002 - Red Hot Chili Peppers I was never a big fan of the Peppers before this album, although I never cringed away from them. But IMHO, top to bottom, this disc is loaded, and has a certain flow that can't be topped. Spoon came close, The Shins came close, as did Radiohead (as I mentioned), this decade's release from CVB called New Roman Times, and I evaluated Beck, My Morning Jacket, and a few others. Minimally, this gives me some ideas of other complete works that need to be listened to, and not just a song by song purchase.
CaP'N GRuNGe
I've fallen out of music for the last 10-15 years. I'd guess if I had to think of something I'd throw a bunch of Coldplay in there.
Chavez
Quickly looked over the thread. . .there isn't a single list of 10 albums posted. Not even Bren, who numbered his list 1-10. Not sure which 7 I'd remove. . unfortunately the 4 Radioheads would all stay. . .they really tower over the decade. Just bustin yer onions. I don't think I'm necessarily qualified to list the ten "best" of the aughts. I think a "best" album should not only be artistically brilliant, but have some form of impact on the musical culture at large - for example, I think Celtic Frost's Monotheist is a f*cking BRILLIANT by an album by a band that shoulda/coulda/woulda been the European equivalent to a smarter Metallica, but it's essentially a thrash metal album. By a band that peaked in the 80s. And as such, it didn't really create much of a ripple outside the diehard metalheads, and it's impact was even limited to a sub-genre WITHIN the metal confines. So I wouldn't be able to really put it on a "Best of the 00s" list, even though I think if you look at it from a purely artistic standpoint, it qualifies. So that said, here are my 10: 10 - Interpol, Turn on the Bright Lights 9 - Loretta Lynn, Van Lear Rose 8 - Queens of the Stone Age, Songs for the Deaf 7- Hedwig and the Angry Inch motion picture soundtrack 6 - Arcade Fire, Funeral 5 - Drive-By Truckers, Southern Rock Opera 4 - Johnny Cash, American IV - The Man Comes Around 3 - Daft Punk, Discovery 2- The White Stripes, White Blood Cells 1- Radiohead, Kid A Honorable mention - Celtic Frost - Monotheist, Killing Joke s/t, Pearl Jam - Riot Act, Radiohead - Hail to the Thief, The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan, Neko Case - The Tigers Have Spoken, Plant/Krauss - Raising Sand,
gilthorp
Chavez, I just gave your #6 a long listen on Friday at work. Not sure I can fully feel what they were trying to do in the workplace. It is one of the most unique sounds I have heard....worthy. That is the only one of your top 10 that I personally own. Ursa Majoris
Killing Joke s/t, An awesome album and all the more amazing when you think they've been at it since 1978. That album sounded like it was recorded at the peak of post-punk. Great stuff.
piratesownninjas
Sorry, nothing really good since 1992. All music should have stopped then and stopped embarrassing itself. Everything Ben Harper has made had been alchemy.

splotchman
To all those who say there is no good music the past 10 years, I think you need to look at bit harder and not rely on Clear Channel to guide your musical preferences. On Midlake, you really like "Baman.." better than "Trials"? My Animal Collective choice would be "Merriweather". My Modest Mouse choice would also be the "Moon and Antarctica".
