Because they were not trying to kill themselves, that is what suicide means, you were attempting to take your own life. Using drugs, even dangerous ones like cocaine, meth, or heroin is not an act of suicide. You were a motorcycle rider, surely you knew at least one person who thought you "had a death wish" because you dared to take that risk and ride.
