NSab
Clipped from Saint Louis Post-Dispatch Q&A with head coach Mike Martz by Bill Coats 6/05/05 Q: What convinced you that Steven Jackson was ready in just his second NFL season to take over for Marshall Faulk as the No. 1 running back? A: I think it's important for Marshall more than for Steven to have Steven take over. Marshall's role will be very significant. It's not limited. It's what he wants it to be. But it's important for Marshall to get Steven in this role so that he can mentor him and they can kind of feed off each other. It allows us to use Marshall maybe even in a different role, too, out of the backfield. Maybe both of them in the backfield. But the whole idea here is, as soon as we made that decision, it's not an issue throughout the offseason for anybody. Marshall suggested this during the (2004) season as a way of helping Steven, so he's not always looking over his shoulder and makes one mistake and he's coming out (of the game), that kind of thing. He's just ready to do it, and Marshall's ready to have him step into that capacity. And yet, this could be a 50-50 deal throughout the season. Swampnuts
More headaches ahead for fantasy owners. I was wary of Jackson to start with, I'll steer clear of him completely now. ( for the first 3 rounds anyway! )
muck
LoL! If anyone needed another reminder why its a bad idea to draft a FF player from STL that doesn't have "QB", "WR" or "K" after their name in the player program...
Duchess Jack
What is this '99? Jackson will be the clear cut numero uno by week
Clubfoothead
I was very disappointed when the Cowboys passed on Jackson. Long term that could still turn out to be a very mad mistake. I'm sold on Jackson. That being said, in a re-draft I'll find someone else next year unless I see something to the contrary in the pre-season. NSab
It's very early, to even speculate on the split, we have to wait until later to see how it plays out.
The Captains Wench
Mike Martz says a lot of things in the off-season. I believe things when I see them.

Chargerz
More headaches ahead for fantasy owners. I was wary of Jackson to start with, I'll steer clear of him completely now. ( for the first 3 rounds anyway! ) 832920 We already knew that Jackson was going to split duty with Faulk (the ol' RBBC trick again!), but I kept thinking that it would be 2/3's Jackson and 1/3 Faulk. Now Martz is thinking 50/50. Even worse for Jackson owners!
Big Score 1
"And yet, this could be a 50-50 deal throughout the season."832891 So here it is well before full training camp, not even close to pre-season and a long way off from the regular season...........and all Martz says is that it could be a 50-50 split. Methinks I'll wait a bit and see how it really shakes out, before burying Jackson. You know, see who's getting what % of the 1st Team reps at RB, during Training Camp. Which guy is being used predominantly during pre season - especially when the 1st string unit is on the field etc, etc, etc. This could very easily be some Mad Mike Martz Coach Speak, designed to keep Faulk happy. Ramhock
Jax runs 'em. Faulk catches 'em.

Hardrocker
And even when I see some things Mike Martz does, I can't believe them. 833334 In a poll recently conducted by the St. Louis Times, 95% of the Coaches named Martz, thought they could do a better job than the slow currently coaching the Rams. CaptainHook
Usually when I hear the "both of them in the backfield" quote from a coach I roll my eyes. Every coach says that when they have two great backs. And then they run about 4 plays all season with both of them in there. With Martz though, I can imagine some pretty wacky formations with both RB's in the game. Marshall in the slot, perhaps? He's a fabulous receiver. . . muck
Personally, I'd bet that more than 2/3 of the touches MF gets this year will be receptions ... that he'll actually run the ball very little ... especially if Isaac Bruce really is hurting. MrGameTime
I think Jackson in Faulk on the way out!!! not that Faulk is bad or washed up! I just think Jackson has what it takes but we will see!!!
